You'd probably have a better chance of getting eaten alive by the salty mooching round the beach chomping on tourists...

Hi shaan got back from port douglas last week got 3 days out of 7 kiting 12-18 knots. Trade winds hadn't kicked in then might have by now. Most guys kite at the southern end of four mile beach (barrier st) where there is a sand bar and semi flat water. Heres the email for a guy that has a shop near port douglas. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. his name is Chirs.
hope this helps.

From memory.... and it was a few years back...living and working up the north queensland coast from Townsville to Cooktown for a number of years.... every beach had a big sign that listed all the nasties that want to eat or maim anything that enters the water...

The list usually read! "Beware" ....Sharks....Crocodiles.... Stonefish .....

but then hey! you are going to look pretty cool in your nylon stockings.... you might need those to stop the Box jellyfish killing ya!! fortunately they only blow onshore during one of the seasons.... and stuffed if I can remember which one... If you get desperate there are the lakes up on the atherton tablelands

Enjoy the trip!

according to chrisb - townsville local (and very proud) the bitey hurty mean water things happen in the summer between about oct-april. Except the sharks, they're not unionised, and work all year round. BUT...the Barrier Reef contains tastier morsels (I got my doctorate in marine biology from 50 concurrent viewings of 'finding nemo' with a temperamental four year old).

And yes, people do wear stockings in the summer to stop the bitey things, and improve the appearance of varicose veins.
So sheer...

Well - I guess that's why he's headed to that particular part of Oz, so's he can parade around in his stockings, but this time with an excuse!
