I live in Dunedin until July 2011, girlfriend studying and Im taking care of our two years old son. I started kitesurfing in 2010 and have done a beginner course. Can get on the board but not go upwind. My son is still to young to kitesurf, so Im looking for other beginner kitesurfers or maybe someone who gives lessons in Dunedin. Have heard Harwood would be a OK starting spot.

A good thing to do is head on down the harbour next to Water Cooled sports around low tide when a north easterly is blowing and chat to the kite crew. They are friendly and very helpful.

Ask for Gavin - he does lessons and will sort you (sorry don't know his number).

Harwood in a North Easterly is the best place for learners but there needs to be a bit of wind. On the outgoing tide is good as it will give you an extra knot or two as it goes against the wind. Watch the power lines if you launch close to the road.

I mainly land kite but occasionally head to Harwood to kitesurf (I only go in the harbour when conditions are spot on as I am not that confident on the water yet). Look out for a red/white PL Charger - that will be me.

Depending on the wind there are a few spots around Dunedin we use. Always keen to see another land kiter! Best man to talk to is Allan ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ). He has a spare buggy and will take you out. If I come too I will bring along a MTB as well that you can try.

Hey there guys i'll be in dunedin as well over this year study and stuff feel free to come with me some time i'll try and get as much as possible i'm just past beginner stage and have friend who is keen to come as well, have 2 brand new switch kites so will prob see you out there
