Ok i'm from the naki but have kited in auckland plenty of times. my advice seems to be fairly normal for most locations i have visited.

yoyour standard wind is up to 25 knots for the most part yourl use kites taht work 15-25 about 70% of the time in the winter yourl have some storm sessions that will push to 35+ gusts. occasionally theres tropical cyclones and extreme weather delivering 40+ knots but they are few and far between.

Yup, with anything in a northerly (nth west, nth east) Kohimarama and St Heliers are the beaches to be at... preferrably mid to low tide.. St Heliers has the flatter water at low tide but Kohi is better for the easterlies

For ur weight a 9 or 10 xbow would suffice... the 9 mite give u a 1 kite quiver

The winds on today and tom.. c u on the water

i'm not a guru of auckland spots. but if its westerly i head to muriwai and easterly orewa, whangaparoa peninsula. I generally try to stay clear of the inner city spots as they are packed and there is not much room for launching and landing, plus the wind can be gusty mixed up by buildings and islands. Also I'm either kitesurfing or landboarding depending on the conditions so i look for big wide beaches i can do but land and water kiting on.

Ad the mooseland to your wish list of placed to go before your die! do a 50km down winder down muriwai beach to the south head of the kaipara harbour and then kite the butter flat lagoons behind the dunes.

hey mate Probably the best resource there is for kite spots in the greater aucland area.

see you out there, At 60 kg you will probably need a 10/7 combo for most winds, If you like super powered go 12/9 Or 12/9/7 If you want the best for all conditions

Well thx for the replies guys!!!
Nice to get some help when ya r new somewhere unknown!!

For the moment Im just afta an all rounder kite for Auckland area.
I cant buy 2 kites.

I think a Crossbow 9m with a 136 or 140cm Caliber board could be good to be able to ride from 15knots and still confy at 25knots++

Tell me if Im wrong

Thx

Hey mate,

Check out this link for a good resource on Auckland kite spots:
maps.google.co.nz/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl...696,3.389282&z=8

I'm in a similar weight range, around 70kg and have found a 9m Naish Helix to be almost ideal (need a little bit more some days, so a 9m would probably be best for you).

Sing out if you need someone to ride with, I normally mission around by myself and wouldn't mind another person to split petrol costs now that it's so expensive!
