We have all had a broken heart at some stage, those times when the conditions are looking promising for an epic session and for what ever reason the occasion slips by. Whats the worst reason to miss out on a fix?

Mine happened yesterday.

The worst reason to miss out on a session is when its been a month since your last fix, you are stuck on a ship anchored off your local beach the day before you are due home. Its going totally nuts, the wind is cranking the water is flat and the local crew are out having a blast. Right under your nose. Its going to take more than chocolate and kite porn to fix it this time my friends..

Laurence i think you need to go to the next stage of kiting addiction and change jobs so you can feed your addiction more often.

For me the worst reason to miss a session is the session i could have made but didn't.
An example would be i can choose a couple of hours on a day of the weekend. so i choose 3-5 on sat. i get there to find out the wind has turnd to poo and 1-3 was epic!!..... downer.... could have made it but didn't

or the other way round the wind is poo and it picks up just as i'm heading off back to the family.

But i can't complain because i'm generally kiting 2-3 times a week over summer. once a week over winter.

Undoubtedly the worst reason to miss out on a kite session is when you don’t have a kite of the correct meterage to fit the wind
Hmm, to kitesurf or to landboard? That is the question for a kite addicted junkie.

Hahahaha Plummet ive seriously considered it though i came to the conclusion that the job funds the habit nicely and does allow me to see some of the best kite spots in the country so when its on its on when its bad its terrible!

and what about an extremely boring xmas party where you're "expected" to be. around you is just a bunch of teenagers (even more bored than you) and outside is blowing your 15 knots onshore... and you know it would have been an epic session

haha that happened to me this year. to make it an even worse pill to swallow charlie and Al were at the beach roosting. So not only was it Christmas and an epic session i was missing out of but i was missing roosting with my out of town buddies. I did make it too the beach for 10 mins to say hello and fly one of charlies kites for a few mins!

Sunday dinners are also a bastard for this, as well as general stuff you promised to do at an earlier date only to find it windy on that day.

Sunday meals... any family event really! Month of doldrums will often light up beautifully when I can least afford to get away. At least I phone my friends to let them know it will be epic while all I can do is gorge on roast.

Yesterday was so windy in Brisbane the vehicle ferry got stuck sideways in the port for over half an hour and the planes were all delayed by several hours. Upside I missed an epic kite session as I had no gear with me... downside was 2 overtired toddlers as travelcompanions.

Hey Plummet - this reminds me. I'm down your way for five days over Easter with the LT2 and the kites (and the Mrs (cough, hack)). Planning on screaming up and down the 'Naki, paddling down a river but most importantly MTB'ing and kiting (sea). You about?

yep i'm around. one of those days is my daughters birthday but others will be fair game.

which river are you paddling down? back in a former sports life i dabbled in a bit of white water kayaking!

I'll be up for either bike or water! but if the winds up and sea cranking the kitesurfing will take preference.

Re: Worst reasons to miss out on a session is.... 1 year, 2 months ago #26956

awesome. So true how even a Chamonix-basher like yourself (and me) still automatically preferences the kite. My biking buddies just don't get it. I've PM'd you my mobile no.

yeah my biking buddies are real dissapointed. every time I go for a kite they see it as a lost opportunity for riding!....

The reality is you can go super fast and huge kiting with little risk compared to mtb. in particular kitesurfing is real soft on the body when you crash. Ok you can hurt yourself but the chances are very low. On the bike fall off at speed or at height and you will be hurting.

We have a general rule of thumb biking. its not good ride until someone vomits or bleeds! and then the blood doesn't count unless it meets your sock! On the weekend one guy broke his hand..... ok we were riding a "grade 5" track in torrential rain. but thats all part of the fun.

Could it be that the rider is heading for his kite surfing session and doesn't want to miss out before sunset? As an addict, I found that i was distracted by the wind blowing through the trees

missing a session because you read the forecast and took the right kit to the beach to find the forecast was wrong and you need to use the stuff you left at home!!!

doh!

morrell of the story always take everything to the beach!! .....

Re: Worst reasons to miss out on a session is.... 9 months ago #27891

Definately when you are under/over powered and you only have one kite. Its like getting cheated on by your Mrs when your at work.

i much prefer being overpowered than underpowered. at least you get he chance to battle the kite for sepremecy when the kite is winning and your skipping offer down wind getting faster and faster and faster and faster you have the trump card and send it for a silly jump!! hahaha stuff you over powered kite i'll just jump your arse until you slow down. hehehehahahahaeheheahahah.

being underpowered baros the turds out of me.
