Hi all,

I currently have a Naish 2008 Helix 9m and Naish 2008 Cult 12m.

The 9m Helix was my first kite, I wanted to ride more so I bought the 12m Cult off trademe.

Over the past 6 months I've found myself hardly using the 12m. There are three reasons for this:

1) The 12m seems to fall out of the sky easily in light wind
2) I seem to be able to ride in a wide range of wind with the 9m (I'm a lightweight at roughly 68kg)
3) The 9m Helix feels much faster & agile, which I prefer.

Does this sound unusual? Is this just a difference between the Cult & Helix?

I'm thinking of selling both and opting for just a 2011 Naish 9m Bolt (or possibly 10.5m). Do you think that would be a good idea?

Cheers!

PS: Is it just me or is it quite difficult to locate the various parts of the forum and to start a new thread?

Hey

I fly 2010 North Rebels, a 9m and a 12m, and had similar experiences with my 12m. A smaller kite will usually be faster and more agile than a bigger kite, its going to be the same for most kites. I also used to have problems when I was still learning with my 12m dropping out of the sky in light winds, but it was more due to flyer error than due to the kite. Obviously owning only 1 kite will limit your wind range, although the newer kites seem to cover some pretty big wind ranges. Personally I would always want to own more than 1 kite, despite the fact that I use 1 kite more often than the other. You could always sell both kites, and buy a smaller kite, coming into winter hopefully there will be some bigger winds and you wont need a big kite quite so much, and then look at buying a second kite later on. I'm not sure of the wind range on the Nasih kites, but the 2011 North Rebel 9m has a range of 15-32 knots just to give you an idea.

Its not just you either, being new to the forum I've found it difficult to find parts of the forum aswell.

i run an 11m ozone edge 8m ozone light combo and that does me pretty well at 80kg.

at 68kg a 10m, 7m combo might be quite usefull to you.

a 9m only will mean you wont be able to get out in the gusty, sqaully days of winter.

Yeah i had that same problem at 65 kgs with just a 9m kite. Have just sold it and brought a 10m, 7m combo which covers me in practically anything.

Sweet kite combo Morgan - I will seriously consider buying North next time I need to update my quiver.
Hmm, to kitesurf or to landboard? That is the question for a kite addicted junkie.

Re: Kite quiver advice 1 year, 3 months ago #26761

If you like Naish take a 10 park for a demo, great kite will suit your weight, you should be sweet in anything from 13-30 nice and fast easy relaunch does everything right, not as grunty on the bottom as my 10.5 Chimera but would really suit your weight.

this is true and the auction on trademe for the North kites in Raglan is now at a more realistic price so i'm really stoked with my crispy quiver.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the advice. That's really helped clarify what I was already thinking.

A 10m / 7m combo sounds like it would be ideal but money wise I might just stick with a 9m. I'm reasonably confident with the 9 in high winds. I've had it out when bigger guys are on 7s, which would probably be a better session but at least I'm on the water!

Would just be in light winds that I'm not able to get out as much (which was why I bought the 12).

Has anyone got any feedback on the Naish 2011 Bolt? I've read a couple of reviews online but not many around (suppose because it hasn't been out long?)

xtremekitesports: How would a 10m park compare to my 2008 9m Helix?

Never ridden the 08 helix ,have had 2010 Helix and thought it was ok but the park is way nicer, your a fair bit lighter than me so youd be sweet in the light stuff,a mate of mine is about the same weight as you and he rocks on his 10 park in anything from 12-30+,best advice would be to give nz boardstore a yell and get a demo on both the park and the bolt and see what fits you best.
