I am a noob. Just completed lessons and now looking at some gear. Figured i'll start off with some good 2nd hand gear until i have a better idea of what i want.

I am a larger rider, 6ft3" and (currently) 115kgs.

I live in Auckland (so lighter winders and flatter water than say WLG?)

I am looking for something that is versatile and can grow with my skill level.
Something that i can take down to WLG, or elsewhere in NZ and further abroad.

Currently looking at a 14m kite.

Seen options for 2008 / 2009 14m Naish Helix, North Vegas and North Rebel.

which one would be better for me?
what are the differences?

Good to hear your as addictated as the rest of us. The Vegas' are amazing kites but seeing as they are a C kite they are alot faster turning and more aggressive making them ideal for freestyle riding, these are usually for the more experienced riders.
The rebels are also a pretty wicked kite, they are very easy to fly and can still hold alot of power which is great for a larger guy like yourself, my mate just has just started kiting and he flys rebels and loves them. If your looking for a more freeride/wave ride kite then rebels are the way to go.
Have not flown the Helix but im pretty sure its quite similar to the rebel...
It doesnt hurt to ask to demo a few kites either, most stores are pretty good with this and will give you a bit more professional advice, try nz boardstore in pt chev.
