ok summer is almost here and i've decided i need to step up the kitesurf carzy level.

Was boosting big yesterday on the 11 edge in 20-25 knots. well big for me anyway. 15-20 foot on occasions. i certainly was floating around in the sky for ages.

landed my first back rolls.

now i want to think about kiteloops.

give me your kitelooping advice!

yeah i was thinking of my 8m light in an easy 20 knots. its fast, and doesn't have tones of Wang in those winds.

Get some donjoy knee braces, or learn forward rolls and transitions too many folks jump straight to kite loops!!!

i asked perrin the same queston about loops, he said "commit"

also and more helpfully said that you start by looping high, start high and end high.
makes a whole heap of sence to me, always got lift/time and kites never far from zeneth.

yep commit is the key word!!! get as high as possible and pull the bar as hard as you can and hold on to it until the kite is back above you!!! you will either make it or get totally smashed!!
but lets face it, when you learn how to do loops you will get many a beat down, i certinaly did and still do!!!

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Kiteloops. 100% commitment is the only way - back out and you will regret even attempting it for days.

But as Dan said, theres probably a lot of things you should learn first - i.e front rolls, transitions, GRABS (Grab EVERYTHING), front/back rolls to revert/toeside (with grabs). If you learn these, you'll be a WAY better kiter than if your quiver of moves is a back roll and kiteloop (to crash)...your body will be happier with you for it too.
Dont try to run before you can walk make sure you have all the basics sorted first.

i dont like to give advice i prefer to sell it but ... plumett when i said small i ment small tight loops, the higher the better, not kite size although small rags move faster so if its gona hurt itll b ova b4 u know it. and yeh commitment, as u get better lower the loop in the window and enjoy, bsafe kids.

What about a michael jackson crutch grab?! is that cool?! hehehe

I'm already going grabs. mainly on the landboard to be honest. nothing like a good axle/ truck grab.

In truth i'm not too interested in all sorts of spinning trickery. just the basic stuff. jesus walking does amuse me! may have to try that.

Plummet Kiteloops are the quickest way to shorten your kitedays. If you start with a kiteloop transition it is way softer, or Like Torrins Darkside boardslides in one of the ozone vids, then the loop is a little safer. Just rem, its not the loop that will hurt you but he crash after.

check this

its like warren millar said, You only have so many turns in your knees once they are gon they are gone.

ouch, 25m drop on to water is a pretty big fall . he basically did the loop while the kite was still parked out beside him !

ok yourve convinced me dan. I'll bugger round with other trickery first.

I've eye'd up a mean step down on the land. transitions off the grass over 20 ish meters of rocks steps down about 15 foot to the sand..... that too will be painful if i stuff it up. but i think i have to do it when the conditions are right!

well i kinda like jumping over things. logs, boulders, streams, rusted car bodies. You never know it may remain a "walk and talk" "playstation" line. it is up there. did i mention the park bench you have to avoid and only 50 meter run up.

now back to the water..... can't be seen discussing landboarding in the kitesurf section.

sounds like you should get a copy of kite progression intermediate and advanced. email me you correspondence address. Also , start by underlooping on carving turns
Hmm, to kitesurf or to landboard? That is the question for a kite addicted junkie.

i underlooped a heelside carve to toeside once with a standard 1120 arc and a 2m directional, all that was sweet, it was the unloop at the end that went wrong, cant hold verymuch toeside, beach was pertty soft that day

i'm downlooping out of jumps all the time on the landboard. usually slide transition heal side and not toeside. i admit that i hate toeside with a wrath of 1000 circus monkeys.

Al. Unloop? is that not just another loop? of a you looping in reverse? backwards loop?

hows the water action treating you.??!!

You know once you get humming on the water then the holiday destinations will change to those that are also sweet for kitesurfing!!!

Underloop/downloop are the same thing essentially, just different terminology on Kite progression advance dvd.

The wind disafuckingpeared as soon I reached the point where I am enjoying kiting on the water. No wind predicted for days, maybe nothing till Saturday . I need a holiday ASAP to somewhere windy.Hmmmmmmmmm!

what im calling the unloop, is what you do after you done a down turn to untwist your lines, comes from flying foils wher you stall a wingtip and the kite just rotates...dosnt work so well with arcs..

it unlooped my whole world instead...not to be trusted.

same as deano up here, cant find enuff wind..went for a try to port waikato but was actualy to windy and waves to big....
im actualy starting to think iv gone soft.....thought to myself, wonder how plummet learned???
waves in the naki arnt much different to these...then recalled you dont have all your teapots and went about my day

it was sink or swim the day first i went out.... 25 knots on the 11 edge and 3 meter swell... hahaha.

heaps of power to get up and plaining!!! just heaps of waves to smash me off again. it gave me the opportunity to practice boddy dragging in the surf!! and water relaunchong the kite! hahah.

how windy was it at port waikato Al? don't you have a 9m? that would eb sweet till at least 30 knots on the water.

your buggy eyethometer is porbably telling you its too windy when it isn't.

Deano just check the forecast and drive!! you should find wind somewhere in the country!!!....

yep, got a 9m shockwave.....would ave been perfect, wind was cranking in at a good 20knots but so were the waves, going to have to get over that pretty quick!

buggy was just right on 3.8reactor...mate was getting his ass handed to him on a 2.5m static blurr....

what was it like learning in the waves? guess the larning curve goes up pretty fast!!

20 knots would be a perfect day for the 9m on the water!

learning in the surf is hard i wont lie. if you had butter smooth flat water it would easy as. but big surf can sometimes be easier than small chop that you get on the auckland east coast beaches. the reason being the small chop is relentless however you can get bits of flat water inbetween the white wash.

It also depends on the wind angle to. cross on is good for waves and chop as you are hitting them squarish.

So my suggestion in the waves is stick to the white wash or run the gauntlet and get out past the breakers. its the breakers that will hammer you.

So if the white wash is less than 2foot just lean way back get the front of the board over and you should be sweet. if its bigger than 2 foot your probably best to a)chicken out and change direction hoon back the other way. B)slap the kite at the zenith and take the white wash just floating, c) jump it!!!... your probably not at the jumping white wash stage.

A similar thing goes for waves. you ask your self the question. Can i make it over the lip before it brakes? if yes then haul arse. if not then a) gay out and go back the way you came, B)slow and stop and take it bobing cork style C) agian jump over that bad boy.... oh and d) just keep on trucking and discover the impact of a wave hitting you at speed....

I've done all of the above!!!

ps in the big surf the last thing you want to do is crash the kite into the waves.

What happened to option e) ride down the line with the wave and crest the wave with ease. You can always get back upwind once you're over the wave and in the mean time you are learning to ride waves... Oceans' a big mother, you don't have to fight her all the way!

well it was advice for guys starting out at the getting up and plaining stage. your right ride down the line is option e)
I also didn't add F) haul arse at the wave face wang the kite back as you hit the lip for insane airtime.
or g)smack that lip hard and ride the wave back.

Riding back towards the beach i love to hoon up behind a pitching wave jump and land on the wave face.... nice. its been suggested i should add a back role into that to make it uber cool. one day when i have them dailed.

agree the progression vids give some good advice on this one. u can get them off a torrent for nothing.

start downlooping while carving a turn like somone else said to get a feel for the pull, then just go for a hooked in downloop, u dont need to jump that high to start with if the kite doesnt finish its loop just keep pulling on your back hand after you land to finish the loop while pointing your board downwind. once youve done it a couple of times you'll wonder what all the fuss is about, especially if your on a bow as the grunt doesnt rip your eyes out of their sockets like a C Just remember where your releases are in case it goes tits up!

let us know how you go!

haven't been on the water for almost a couple of weeks!!... yikes. but i managed to practice my back roles on the landboard last week. will be working on them next session to get both sides sweet. amusingly i find it easier doing a bad roll riding in my back direction !..... weird.

i accidentally did an unhooked kite loop transition the other day. would have looked similar to kirks whipe out except lower. i was doing a bog standard transition jump but had forgot to install my donkey dick and the chicken loop popped out. i'm not ready for unhooked riding so i accidentally fishpole the bar and get yanked down wind when the kite loops....then the damn bar gets yanked out of my hands and I splash down in a heap.

here's my back roll on the land board in around 10 knots on my monster 15m foil.

getting better at the back roll. i stuck a nice floaty one one today.

I also moved on to 720's aswell today.

Well i was aiming for a 360 but got to much height and kept on rotating so i went with it. got the full way round twice but didn't have the kite re-directing well enough to stick it nicely.
