Gidday,

I'm an old Dunnos boy now living over the ditch, I've surfed all my life around Dunedin, but now kiting and loving it.

I'll be bringing my family home this xmas to hook up with the rest of my fam and some old friends, my problem is none of them kite so they will be heading for the off shore (surfers) whilst I'll be chasing crossonshore.

any advice would be sweet... I've been checking spots on google maps so I'm keen to travel up and down the coast a bit too.

Cheers

Horey

Hiya
There is some info here on Dunners www.nzkiteboarding.com/list.php?c=beach3

Head here for a wind report www.portotago.co.nz/3/2/3.html

I have only kitesurfed at Harwood (flat water) but other areas are main harbour basin (can be a tricky entry/exit), Long Beach (was there a week ago land kiting with Kitesurfers on the water), Aromoana, Doctors Point (entry to Blue Skin Bay), Waihola in a SW.

North Easterly is the main wind over summer (usually on a fine day).

Others will know more than me.

Gidday mate,

I was just learning when I was kiting in Dunedin so didn't explore much but Warrington works in any easterly and has some nice mellow surf to play in. You might even get lucky and see some dolphins!

Also Aromoana is really nice and works best in NE.

I always saw lots of kites (by Dunedin standards) out in the harbour by Portsmouth Drive but never gave it a go due to the water depth and proximity to the road.

Also heading home for Christmas to Dunners, unfortunately not taking the kite as only back for a few days.

Enjoy!
Joe

Joe,

Cheers for the info, looks like I'll be in for some good sessions up the spit or at Harwood.

Enjoy your break
