I am camping and kiting at Castlecliff Beach, Wanganui, from Nov 15th for 8/9 days. I have kited there off and on for 5 years and great spot with lots of wind and usually side/on. Also bottom slope means good breaks and not a mile to go to get "out back". One downside is no-one else much around so if you would like to try this spot and like company on the water for backup/safety then reply.
I am from Canada but have kited in NZ at Orewa, Muriwai, Pt Chev, Ferguson Park and Papamoa at Tauranga, Foxton, Nelson, Chch, off East Coast at Blemhiem, Collingwood near Nelson and Rotorua, Taupo and Clearwater (near Mt Somers) lakes and so far Wanganui most consistent and clean wind and good beach with no rocks/cliffs or windshadows.
I like Foxton too but last year I camped there for 14 days and mostly directly on-shore. I am going to try there again this year after Castlecliff.

I'm just getting back into land kitting, but would be happy to give it a go again. I'm a Wanganui local so should be able to make it out after work or something.

Will do. I have kited Fitzroy (splg) and Waitara but not further around the Mountain yet. Seemed to be a lot of rock and more tide dependent. Also spent two weeks at Raglan last year and nice to be able to kite out to the break from the campground but squirrelly winds from the South (the bluff there?) and hassle of tidal run and no chance to do downwinders that I could easily identify. Still learning the sites though but I agree seems to be lots of good possibilities North around Coast from Wanganui if rocks/cliffs not a problem as in being dashed against them if you have a problem?

What's Waitotara like these days (further up the coast)? I remember having an awesome cross-shore windsurf there many years ago.

Should be good and I have driven in there a few times but no wind though I remember a better break than Wangaunui due to curve of coast I guess. I remember a decent camping area and will be kiting it this year from Wanganui. If anyone kites it regularly how about letting up know here?
