to sit or stand, that is the question. yes its been asked b4, weve all had our 2 cents worth but its diffrent this time, cause its my problem now. my back has been complaining most resently about my waist harness, although the alturitives arnt good so far as i can tell, a seat harness, a nappy 4 gods sake, no i dont likem not just because the cog is too high and ur heads likley to land on terra firma b4 ur feet, its just cause threr bulky and dont look good. but the awnser came from my dear ole mate at kiteworks, perrin. hes sugested a climbing harness, its light, cheep, its somwhere inbetween both styls, so far as cog, and it can fit under my boardies so ill still look casual on the beach, not like some spaceman lookin 4 ground control, lov'n'peace johnie.

you could also consider an ozone xc snow kiting harness if your looking at climbing style. the ozones harness is like a clibing harness but with more padding on the legs and back.

i use the ozone harness on the land and a waist on the water. Cog is abit different but only takes a session or 2 to get used. to.

advantages. never ever rides up.

disatvantages. set it up wrong and there'l be abit of ball squeeze going on. no loop to attach the safety to.

ps i've never used it in the water.

I don't mind the waist harness on the water as the kite is lower generally. I don't get the break my ribs feeling.

on land the kite is generally higher for a number of reasons. because of that the waist harness tries to break my ribs. i need to use a non rib breaking harness on the land.

Johnie,
With all of your whining you are starting to sound like an old man! Yet I have seen you out there and only hope to come close to pulling some of the tricks that you do!

Have you tried a short harness? It shifts the weight lower like a seat harness, but doesn't feel like a nappy

Make sure you wear a pair of shorts/lycra or something underneath as the leg straps can rub bare skin a bit - but I think it might be what you are looking for.

no i'm on a landboard on the land, not in a buggy. So i'm standing up. similar to kitesurfing. powered landboarding is actually harder on the body than powered kitesurfing. on the land the waist harness just kills me. but i can use the ozone harness for hours.

on a side note i find the ozone climbing style harnes doesn't give as much back support as the waist harness. its thinner. but it does pull from a different spot which may be good for you?

Whats causing the pain? the fact that its riding up? or are you screwing your lower back and abs due to heaps of air time and dangling under the kite. if its due to dangling then i think the seat style or climbing style will help.

well i'm in the naki so most of my landboarding takes place down here. when i'm in auckland i usually hit up muriwai the moose or orewa on the landboard. i haven't tried bastion. but a standing wave sounds like fun.

i don't mind high wind landboarding. i have land kites good for 35-40 knots. my monster board is stable indeed. but i'm not a free styler. i'm more into speed distance and old school floaty jumps. kiting the length of muriwai beach has to be one of the highlights of my short kiting life.

as for land v water. i head for the water in a cross shore and the land on an onshore. in thruth i still favour the land.....
