I'm pretty keen on getting on of these gopro's. But funds don't allow the full retail purchase price. anyone know where i can get one for cheaper thant the $525 i see listed around the place?

Worked out at just under $NZ400 when I purchased. I got the line mount, board mount and Gopro HD kit. Add a SD card and your away.

You can get Gopro bits, helmet mount on Trademe too.

yeah current exchange rates puts it at $429 without freight. so add freight and gst yoour up to more than what you can get locally. $485 for the hd helmet kite is the cheapest i've found so far.

I dont know anyone selling the kite line mount in NZ so worth the purchase. I was luck enough to dodge the duty/gst on my purchase.

any dis-advantages to the gopro? i here a lot of good things but not much if any bad.

Get the anti fog patches with it. Theres a bit of heat going on in there and in cold conditions itll fog up.

strapped in on. did some flips on the tramp. belted down the road on my mtb. strapped to my longboard skate hooned off down the street on that. downloaded the footage. all in lunch time.

tonight is a mtb night ride. so i'll find out if it can work in low light.

Differnce between these two cameras is the number of mounts.
Helmet Hero has many more mounts included than the surf hero camera.
So you can mod something up for Kite mounting too.

WATERPROOF (20M) (Including the remote to 1m), 1.5" LCD view finder screen, an integrated sensor that measures G-Force while filming, GPS module, swappable Lithium batteries, 5MP camera, low light capable, a built in laser pointer to line up your shot, on the fly exposure and white balance controls and a universal tripod mount that will enable me to affix it to anything. Everyone wonders whether or not they will use the built in screen. YOU WILL. Every time I have mounted this camera I have had to adjust the angle to get the perfect shot. The instant feedback is invaluable. The shock resistant housing has taken a fair amount of abuse in the short time I have owned it, and I'm impressed with how well this camera has taken hits.

The ATC9K is a totally different form factor. The GoPro is heaver when utilizing the the included waterproof housing.

I bought a ATC9K from IQToys and it works well. This is a small helmet cam sample reduced to 640 x 480.

The PC software is pretty useless though, it requires QuickTime and QuickTime doesn't seem to be able to keep up with the HD video on my 6 month old laptop. There are no editing features in the software. In the end I found it easier to import into IMovie on the Mac.

Has anyone tried to attach this camera to their kite lines?

It is probably not the Quicktime which is the problem. Editing HD video is extremely resource intensive and requires a pretty high spec PC or laptop to run without "stuttering".

You need a good graphics card which has at least 512MB cache memory, but more is better (mine is 3GHz). You need at least 2GB ram and a dual core processor of more than 2GHz. Your Mac probably has that, but not your laptop.

There's a variety of editing programs available for HD editing which can do amazing things. Just have a look around. Pinnacle Studio works for me, but costs about $200.

yeah editing hd video is a bitch unless you have a super computer computer. my editing programme adobe elements 8.0 doesn't have most of the gopro settings. 1080p, 960p, 720p in 60fps..... it does do 720p however.

I've taken a tone of 960p footage but can't edit it nicely. downer.

Weight is not an issue with the GoPro.
It is a very light weight camera and housing all things considered.
I would like to see some footage from other cameras being used by Kiters etc as most everyone is going the GoPro way it would be good to see the apples with apples comparison.
We sell the GoPro cameras and have not had anything but rave reviews about it. I use it my self.
The editing I do is on a MAC, super easy, my Laptop PC is not up to the job.
So next laptop will also be a MAC. The free iMovie software does a sweet job for what im doing.

The new naked GoPro is just $425 too so that's pretty good.
We have the surf hero and Helmet hero mounts in stock too.

Catch me at the beach sometime and I'll likely have the camera in the van if you want to have a look at it.

Torpedo 7 were advertising the Motorsports GoPro here for $399 but sold out pretty much straight away.
