Jus to let you wellington Guys know theres a great untapped riding spot just 1 1/2 hours north on State Highway One at FOXTON BEACH.
Theres a massive flat water estuary which works on anything from SE,S,SW,W,NW providing epic flatwater in all wind conditions. Even sub 10 knot sessions can be had on the outgoing tide with wind against tide making this place rideable in anything from 8 knots right thru to 35 knots or as much as you can handle!

Theres a decent swell and waves on the beach right next door ranging from mellow 1 foot tiddlers thru to 3 metre monsters in mostly cross onshore winds.

Theres a huge hardpacked beach at low tide which stretches uninterrupted for 21 km north to Tangimoana, perfect for buggiers and landboarders to hit it hard.

Theres also a few large sections of sand dunes with drop offs, bowls, tracks and flat sections for those buggiers who really want to ride some great terrain.

The beach is safe, water is mostly shallow and theres only 4 of us locals who ride here meaning theres always room to kite without the crowds commonly associated with other Kapiti coast locations.

The wind forecast is always short of the actual wind speeds here which are alot smoother and more consistent than Gnarly Wellington winds, and it has as many sunshine hours as Nelson with a consistent sea breeze on most sunny days.

Combine all this with an IKO Kiteschool and Kiteshop right behind the sand dunes itself and you have a pretty epic location within a short drive from the capital.

Drive on up and take a look sometime, youll be pleasantly surprised at what you find.

Check out this map of the riding spots here.

yep i rate foxton as one of the top kiting spots in nz.
massive long beach for down winders, flat water estury, sweet for land kiting. works the sweetest anything from S to NNW, you can kite in the estury in easterlies, but with the wind coming off the land its a bit lumpy.

the best draw card for this spot is that the wind cranks most of the time. theres tones of 20 knot+ days. infact the wind is generally 5-10knot more than the forecast.

The waves tend to break quite a away out so you end up with big patches of flat water in between the white wash.

if your into carving up waves i haven't yet seen a spot that beats the naki however.
