Hi there
I am from Germany and live in NZ now for almost 5 years. I just been home in Mai and have some tips for you.

Well the kite spots (the good ones anyway) are more in the northern part of Germany. You look at 150k around Hamburg. There is of course Sankt Peter Ording in the north of even the area around the Flensburger Foerde. Another hot tip is Denmark, just around the corner. There you have Romo, an Island with excellent kite conditions.

In the south or middle part of Germany you mainly have lakes. Most of them are restricted or for weekend sailors only. And the wind is normally crap around those due to trees and stuff.

I hope you get some kiting in. Up north is going to be the windy season, I am from Flensburg and we normally have good easterlies in Autum.

You can check out www.foerdekiter.de - german though.

I hope that helps.

Cheers
Frank

I can vouch for Romo in Denmark. A kiters paradise, zoned for all different aspects of the sport and great wind too. Jus dont miss yer flight home cause of too much kiting like we did.... doh.

In the South of Germany, in the Alps, are some mountain lakes which get good valley breezes which are good for kiting. But that is a long way from Dortmund / Cologne.

hey there, I'm originally from Germany as well. Lived in Aachen which is 40min west of Cologne. Its "only" 2.5h to the dutch or belgian coast from Cologne. It's still a bit of a drive but the forecasts are pretty good and reliable over there so it's def. worth heading to the coast if the forecast is looking good. Just check the dutch/belgian marine forecast.
We often did trips just for the day as the conditions are so much better than inland and it's so much closer than the German coastline up North

have fun
