Ok i've been landboarding for maybe 3 years and prefering to do so because of the speed of setup/packup and the fact that i don't have too much time (i have a young family).

However the allure of the ocean is pulling me an i'm afraid i may have to come to the dark side.

I'd be looking at a s/h set up maybe a year or 2 old.

give me some advice.

I'd want a kite fot winds 12-25knots. i geuss a 12m sle? moderate to high aspect? i'm not sure. I'm currently running 10m manta which is relatively high aspect foil. so 'id like something similar in performance.
what size board? 139mm maybe?

On land on the landboard i'd consider myself intermedaite maybe approaching expert. being able zap along at speeds up to 60kph and get airtime controllably up to 8-10foot in height and 18m in distance.

Considering a have good kite control skills what extra info would i need for the sea?
i presume i'd have to learn self rescue techniques, launching and landing the lei. Once i'm up and plaining and have the board weighting sorted i presume the processed will be very similar?

You are always welcome here... you'll have fun and then you'll get a buggy too!

Freeride... freestyle or wakestyle, waveriding? The board shape and size vary. Though I'm surprised you're not building a carbon contraption already.

Yep 11m-13m will service that range depending on kite/model and riding style. You might want to try a different harness depending on prefered riding style or kite.

The biggest difference is the need for a little more power to get going than on land. Once planing it's all the same unless conditions are light and maintaining planing speed is a bit more sensitive. Jumping, redirecting and landing roughly stays the same but for having speed out of the landing to stay planing.

Oh... you'll need a pump too!

jeese maybe freereide? belting along and catching air of wave lips appeals.

for harness i have the mystic waist and the ozone xc. the mystic might not ride up with a wet suit on? perhaps?

i'll build a carbon board after i buy cheapy and realise what i like and don't like.

i've got a cunning plan re pumping. a precharged lpg bottle with releif valve set so as not to over pressurise the bladder.

guster you should already be at the moose. today will be a better day than tomorrow. Torrential rain forecast for round 3 tomorrow.

139mm is a good board size for a pet mouse for sure - i would go maybe 135 tho 40mm wide

I freeride and waveride. Rode waist harness with C kites and prefer seat for SLE's, especialy when waveriding so you get the full throw of the bar. Don't bother with the Ozone XC for the water and save up for a proper seat harness when you need it.

Don't bother with the precharge... not enough in it. Pump doesn't take as long with SLE as they did on C's in the olden days.

Sadly I have this thing called a job that snuck up on me and somehow became a career in the last few months. Car is packed and I'm making up for it by joining the 3am convoy.

Car's never been so packed. Gave up on taking the surf gear too. Three buggies, some spares, refreshments and some camping gear.
