Is the race going to be 1 hour in a straight line or is it more of a course format with upwind legs?

The course will be two bouys 500m apart across the wind (Windsurfers and Kitesurfers will have seperate courses, but will race at the same time) There is potential for a lot of carnage as all the kites will be relatively close together Basically whoever goes around the bouys (laps) the most, is the winner.
I am not sure how the team race will work - more details will come closer to the time.

Please note I am not one of the event organisers. The organisers are windsurfers who are doing something fun, and its pretty cool that they're making a big effort to include kiteboarding in the event. I'll definitely be heading down to join in the fun though!

It is great that the Windsurfers have decided to include us. I do wonder if a 500m course is too small for and more than a handful of kites.

We have just recieved the Entry Forms, and have them in store. Or you can download them from: www.awa.org.nz/wind_sport_entry_form_2009.pdf
It's $40 for non-AWA members (we're kiters so that's probably all of us).

I spoke to one of the organiser's and they are going to do their best to put the marker bouys as far apart as posible (if at shoal bay it will obviously be quite restrictive, but 500-800m would be a good estimate)...but yes, there will be a lot of kites in a small area = carnage = good to watch

They have decided to limit the number of kite racers to 20-24 per race. If there are more kiters than this, they will split the field and have the second group race INSTEAD of the team race (which will be quite difficult for us anyway)

"With the current forecast being North East we will most likely be holding the event at Takapuna. The course will most likely be a figure 8 and the plan is to hold two races. The first will be a one hour endurance/marathon race. The person that can do the most laps of the course in the 1 hour time will be the winner."

Registration is essential, and can be done on the day (I think they'll be set up at the Takapuna sailing club)

Due to the less-than-average wind forecast, the 1 Hour Race has been postponed until another weekend. The tides next weekend are a little difficult in the harbour next week, so if it is Easterly, the event could take place. However, if it is Westerly, it will be Hadlow watching at Murawai.

Will update when possible

As you'll be aware, the weather is pretty average today! So the event has been postponed...As a guide, just keep an eye out for the next sunny-ish weekend with a reasonable forecast.

The windsurfers are having their Slalom series at Pt Chev today...if you're into that...
