Has anyone any recommendations for a company to use to insure kite gear when travelling overseas. Seems most companies specifically exclude it (and surfboards etc) or charge >$500. Seems a bit steep to me.

I got insurance from flightcentre which I think use a company called travelwise for a trip to the cooks leaving tomorrow. They were told I was out there kiting and taking gear and there was no extra charge. I did have to discuss value with the guy from flightcentre as the single item limit was slightly less than a new kite, but they are now a year old so would accept getting slightly less back.

They do not however insure gear while it is in use - and this seems to be standard on all policies. Hence if you dump a kite into a tree - tough!

Post office sell travel insurance over the counter .... from memory 60 bucks gets you $10,000 sporting gear cover but as noted above not when in use... covers loss or damage in transit ...
havnt had to claim but fine print seemed ok!
