I'm a beginner looking for a new 16m kite. I spoke to a couple of shops and fpr under $2000 I could get a '04 boxer or a '03 co2. which would be the better option. :?:

Re: better 16m 8 years, 2 months ago #2174

is this a trick question?

avoid the C02....
if you are only looking at those two kites, go for the Boxer.
really in the NAISH range the V4 would have to be my pick.
but as a learner kite the boxer rocks

Looks like Lee hangs out in this group more than he admits.

There is nothing wrong with either kite.

Performance is about the same between the two.

Go for the one you get a better deal on.

Go 2nd hand - new kites are a rip off...

Regret buying brand new initially

i agree with bigface. buy second hand unless you've got heaps of time and money to burn. if your a worker like most of us are then you don't get enough time to kiteboard enought to warrent the best gear, not to mention the fact that our hard earned cash is better off spent on other stuff as oppose to the best toys on the beach.

I have spoken to a fair few people now that are new to kitesurfing and they are being told old all sorts of absolute crap about which kite is best to buy - worrying them sick for no real reason when they are about to /or have spent their hard earned money. Performance wise there is nothing much wrong with any 2003/2004 kite on the market -. Listening/reading this drivel from unknown sources here is a waste of your valuable time. Go down the beach and ask people that are not industry/associated with the company in question or even try one out if you can and enjoy the ride.

If your only going to have one kite don't go for a 16mtr for lake wakatipu .I have used my 16mtr 3 times in quertown and my 10mtr 15 or more in the last 3 months the wind only starts to fill in at 18/20kts.

Either kite has good performance, the only thing i would say is that the CO2 is a top end top quality kite, whilst the naish boxer is a bit less built and cheaper construction. Performace wise there is no difference. The boxer could be a good option as its an 04 kite so resale value is a bit better but you can get a 03 co2 16 for $1350 inc bar and lines and pump from one of the shops in barrys pt rd

Re: better 16m 8 years, 2 months ago #2339

thats a BRAND NEW kite

Re: better 16m 8 years, 2 months ago #2340

Well, thats a good one Mr Guest.
CO2 & quality being used in the same sentence.
Dean would probably sell you his one for $600, so thats an even better deal. Dean, post your number here.
