i'm using a mystic warrior waist harness. its good but i think its slowly trying to break my ribs..... on days when i'm jumping and having the kite high rather than down low in the window in rides up and slowly squashed my ribs..,...,. admittedly its usually when i'm well powered or overpowered.

any suggestion for different harness or ways to may this one ride up less?

ps i'm on a landboard flying a 10m manta.

Well Plummet im using a carbinha impact waist harness and i find it to be really really good. Does ride up a little in the same way you mentioned when flying with the kite high and powered but its not to bad i think its something that will happen with pretty much all waist harnesses.

You could try different harnesses but you will still have to find one that fits you well. Not all of them will fit everyone. I tried a dakine waist harness on the landboard and couldnt keep it off my ribs no matter how tight it was. Just didnt work for me but my Cabrinha one fits me really well.

Have you thought about a nice padded rock climbing harness? more of a captive system tho as you dont have a spreader bar but stops the riding up and is pretty good for the landboard. I used to ride in one. Still do when im flying my blade but much perfer the waist harness.

I tried all sorts of harnesses. I could not find a waist harness that didn't squash my ribs and couldn't find a seat harness that didn't give me a wedgie. And don't say I fly the kite too high, because I don't. The trouble came when I jumped.

I then tried on Liquid Force harness shorts. They were awesome! I bought a pair straight away and never looked back. It costed about $275 at WSP in Takapuna and is worth every cent. Just make sure the straps are nice and tight around your legs so that the harness doesn't dig into your hips. It almost feels like you are not wearing a harness. It also looks much cooler than a bulky harness around your bum or waist.

I don't understand why they are not more popular because I reckon they are the ultimate in comfort. I will never buy any other type of harness again.

hmmmm..... the problem i have is that i can't try tones of harnesses as theres no shop close by. and if there was how would i know if my ribs where going to get squashed until i tried it overpowered..... hmmmmm.

shorts are an idea but i do plan on snow kiting aswell and shorts wouldn't be that usedull in this application..?

i have though about the ozone snow kite harness but this the waist support is abit small. maybe a waist harness that has some padded leg straps also to stop it riding up? if such a thing exsists.

I am no expert on snow kiting but would think it is all the same. You should be able to comfortably wear a shorts harness under your snowboard pants if it is the look you are worried about.

See if WSP would be willing to send you one to try on and send back if it doesn't feel right.

I tried different harnesses in the shop end compared them by hooking onto a mounted harness line in the windsurfing section of the shop and hanging my weight onto it. I could feel reasonably well which ones felt good and which ones not.

Kitesurf waist harnesses all ride up to some extent. The difference is that in water you can lie back and shift it down easily. The other constraint with waist harnesses is that you don't get the full throw on many of the new depower kites but freestyle is easier to land with the higher towpoint

The choice is usually based on whether you need a high or low towpoint(and if you need a high towpoint, whether you can put up with the riding up of the harness) There are seat harnesses with a high towpoint though. Often called combination harnesses ie. Dakine Sonic or Fusion.

I also suggest trying out a few next time you're in the big smoke Plummet. They vary greatly between brands. Alternatively you end up with several and use a different harness for each use. I prefer waist for freestyle as it's easier to land tricks. Stick to seat when it's rough or when riding surf as you need the throw on the bar. Also prefer seat for speed. Then I also have the cut down "climbing harness style" seat harness for snowkiting and buggying. None of the bulkier harnesses work well with snow gear unless you limit yoursef to a sunny day. If you think a waist harness is bad over a wetsuit or t-shirt, try it over a jacket and have it go right up to your chin! :O)

I have the Ozone seat harness and was using it at Raglan... should have given it a spin!

All i will say is be on the look out for the 2010 Ozone snowkite harness. Could be exactly what you are after... not sure how much i can say but they look nice and sound like what you are looking for.

I use an Ozone Snowkite harness (08 D ring model) and find it great on snow and land. Heaps of freedom, comfortable and easy to get on over other clothing. Easy to adjust and does not ride up. Would recommend it - and would expect later models to be better. (good in the buggy as well)

Perchance Dan.J had some influence in the 2010 harness design... pulling Zenon's leg about it! Who knows...

@ kitey

never thought i would be giving a history lesson on here.....

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gestapo

in short Hitlers secret police came and took you away in the night when you said things like, freedom, democracy, and made you sign a paper saying you had requested them to take you into protective custody.

you then disappeared.... permanently.

I use a mistic warrior harness now thanks to tony at blow me after my firestarter was stolen. I have a have a 30inch waist and use a small i tryed everything from lager medium but small did the trick no one could belive it in the shop lol it sits just below my rib cage and doesnt move a inch. Although i broke 2 of my ribs on a Blade Prime C kite after landing from a dicent hight on my side almost a belly flop really and the harness was so stiff it crushed them good fun really lol If its riding up its not tight enough mine i tighten the valcro padz right up and suck in when putting on the spreader bar its a bit tight when you breath out but once the kite is hooked in it pulls it out slightly and wont ride up. Not so sure on snow kiting but i would think you'd need alot of back support so i would say a firestarter. But i think the best person to speak to is dan.j he designs them and is into his snow kiting

Don't think i can wait that long.... ribs hurt too much. i might try this years ozone harness and possibly upgrade next year when the 10 is out. toy boy. mines a medium ad i'm around 35 inch waist. my thought was that its too small. not to big.

ps i have it so tight i almost can't breath and it still rides up.

On that topic... took me a while to get used to my Dakine waist harness. Someone suggested wearing it looser so it's easier to pull down and doesn't crack your ribs when it rides up. Sounds weird but it was more comfortable that way. However that was on the water and it is easier to lie back and shift it down compared to when standing and MTB'ing.

I was heavily overpowered on the Ozone harness under the 8m Pansh last sunday and it never bothered me much(38" 95kg) The leg strap tension is important to get right else it pinches your nethers when loaded up with the kite. However it's not comfortable to walk when they're set up right(similar to a skydiving or climbing harness in this aspect) By comparison a normal kiting seat harness never had that issue. I just release the leg strap tension when I have to run after someone about to hit a fence...

how about air time? with the ozone harness? how does it work with the kite above you? also is the pulll point lower than a waist harness?

Yup, had a few jumps and a few lofts due to the 5-20knot conditions. No problems there but it is basically just a seat harness hence a low towpoint.

There are only 2 options for a high towpoint. Waist harness or combination waist+seat harness like the Dakine ones I mentioned earlier in this thread.

when are they due out? 2010 or in the next couple of months?
problem is i'm really getting screwed. i did an hour session on sunday in about 15-20 knots so powered but not overpowered and my ribbs still hurt.

its taken me awhile to come to this conclusion as i thought thats just what happens but infact i think its doing some dammage so i need to change and change quickly so my ribs can repair. or stop kiting for a while..... which isn't an option! i could try an fly unhooked. but i only last 10-15 minutes it light winds before i'm stuffed.

i have had a similar experience with my mystic warrior.. riding up and crushing the ribs.. purchased the dakine shorts and was a better fit.. felt more comfortable and natural.. but due to a back injury have had to put the shorts aside and use the warrior now and seems to aliviate the back problem.. ive been using it the last 7 days in a row and at first was tough to handle but now find it easier on the ribs.. still rides up a bit but the last couple of sessions were fine.. if something doesnt work then try somethign else.. best of luck

note i'm not in the sea with a wet suit on. which is probably less likly to ride up.

i'm on the beach with tee shirt and wind jacket. easily able to ride up layers.

note the 2010 harnes is not due out till at least december. i'll grab a standard one now and look to upgrade next year.

I did write a post for this before, but it dissapeard somehow.

Anyway, I find that my harnss, liquid force, does ride up if I'm lazy about putting it on, but if I do it nice and tight it stays where I put it.

However as has been said already, if I'm wearing several layers it rides up much more.

I'm thinking of a way round it but come summer it won't matter, and I don't have too many issue with it anyway.

ps i'm planning to do some long distance runs. muriwai, 90mile, foxton to paraparaumu. hehe thats close to 200km in one sentance so a lower mount harness like the ozone xc might be better for that too..... we will find out.

Lower harness is generally better for endurance or stormy gusty conditions especially on a long throw depower bar. Just easier to relax against the kite-load. Hey... you can adjsut the spreader bar position up and down somewhat on the combination wast+seat harnesses. Well, you could on the older ones...

Plummet,
I use the Ozone XC harness (with the spreader bar hook) for all my landboarding needs both freeride and freestyle and i must say its the shizzle! Super comfy, loads of support in all the right places and doesnt ride up ever.
Id suggest you get one.
Dont quote me but i doubt youll be able to get your hands on one of those new Ozone Snowkite harnesses for a couple of months yet.......

The 08 Model with the D ring is also great. Only difference is its harder to unhook if thats your thing.
I have a couple spare D ring harnesses in my cave youre welcome to try and will have a couple of the 09 Spreader bar models in the Wind warrior Shop in a couple of weeks.

If its a waist with leg loops youre after. Ive also got a Session 1 Waist that comes with leg loops. Its a L and a bit big for the more slender man, but you can try this out too if ya like.
When you down my way next?

Happy trails

ahhh... i haven't looked at this thread for a few days....
thanks for the info butch. I didn't know you had a shop going. It makes sense really.

I've already ordered an ozone harness. Should be here shortly. I will however look at your session harness for future reference.

I'll be blasting passed 3-4 next Wednesday Aug 19. I'll be keen for a session weather permitting. i think low tide is around 3? on that day.
