Thinking about all you who have had your kite gear stolen and things, im wondering how many people have their gear covered by insurance?

I was thinking about it and i dont think i would be covered if someone broke into my car and stole the stuff, so i am looking into insuring my gear as it stands...

Are any of you guys taking to insurance on your gear and if so who are you insured with?

wow $34 a week.. that seems alot... $1768 for a year.......

I spoke to AMI insurance today and can get my kite and board covered for $64 a year.... But i haven't asked what kind of things that is covered for. Which i will find out before going through with anything.

Anybody else?

Just be wary of conditions of risk. Ie. vehicle contents is covered under home contents, but only when the vehicle is parked securely at home. It could be covered under comprehensive vehicle insurance but then you're looking at having to provide 'secure parking' etc. etc. Alternatively you can ask for a commercial vehicle insurance and have it covered like tools or stock.

In the end it's just not in the insurers best interest to cover sports equipment considering the general conditions of use and wear on equipment and that is why it tends to be so expensive.

It's up to you to practice a little common sense. If it really matter that much, take care where you park, cover gear from sight and install an alarm or a wife. As times get tougher and addiction to P increases there's always more people on the prowl for an oppertunity. While it's depressing not to be able to just go out and enjoy a good session, it's worse still to come back to your car being broken into, having to deal with the cops and an insurance company and picking bits of glass out of everything.

Check that your home & contents covers your stuff if it is "temporaily removed from your property".

AMI's premier house & contents does do this, it's roughly $389 per year for up to 40k, depending on what your house is built out of and if it has an alarm etc. Nothing to do with your car, or car alarm.

As for wear and tear, just be careful with your gear, repairs, maintenance etc it's just like everything you own, servicing/fixng your car, waxing/reparing your snowboard etc..

a guy here had boat insurance on his gear, had the kite on the water and wave went through it... but the insurance didnt cover wave damage!
harbour boosting, sideways buggying, harwood speed gps'ing, sometime kiteskiing, wave/washing machine kiting, gear breaking, driving about chasing the wind....
