Here's a kitecam video from yesterday in the early hours. The light was great and it kept me on a high for the rest of the day!

all we do is Portnawake

Awesome vid look like great conditions for a blast and all the better that you were the only one in the water. I would have been in the car on the way to work at that time would rater have been on the beach. Nothing like a dawny to make your day.

Woah very cool!
Hey how did you mount the camera? Ive got a W60 as well, and tried it a few times, but mostly have trouble with mounting it - and having it point in the right direction...

I bought a small case logic from Dick Smith. $12
I sacrificed a tie down strap by cutting it down to something like 40cm
I cut a hole for the lens (not quite big enough by the look of it),

Then I did two cuts on the sides of the case to let a standard tie down go through. I burnt the edges of the cuts also to make sure they won't fray.

Before pumping up the kite, I pass the tie down around the back of the center strut. On most kites, the canopy isn't stitched all the way to the L.E., that's handy!

Then when I'm about to launch, I start the camera, double check that it's actually recording and insert it in its case, and close the zip, and I attach a safety cam leash to the pump attachment or to a valve, just for peace of mind.

It's just a one minute overhead pretty much, anything taking longer to setup would be sacrificed in the rush to go out!

As for aiming it right, well... I guess it depends on the kite's profile, too far forward on the strut and it'll point too far behind you. Sheeting in and out also affects where the cam points, so there are moves that are more suitable than others, and there's also quite a bit of garbage to cut out when editing.

Excellent - thanks Alexb! I'll try that out next time im out! Previously I've resorted to simply taping the camera to the strut not recommended...

A few proper Pubs down Ian...Explored that "Harrods" place today, and found my new dream toy: Cayago Magnum (www.seabob.com/en/index.html) - a $240,000 under-water ski with Sat Nav & Radar! They also had $900 beach towels...needless to say I walked out empty-handed:side:

Still, the best housing for that kind of practice is the one developed specifically by Camrig.com, around USD100 shipped to NZ, which actually isn't too bad considering how they got their concept sussed out and pushed into a proper commercial product, with plenty of support/info.

I went for the DIY option essentially because they were back ordered...

I long for the days when the NZ$ was around 78c to the US$ about a year back
At the time i looked at the camrig and thought nah it will come down in price and then ill snap 1 up.. ha
Now it doesnt matter what kite gear we buy as its ganna hurt
Anyways in spite of the recession i think ill treat myself as the latest camrig looks like they have advanced the design a step further

And nice action in the vid alex.. send us another when u get the opportunity.. and top editing!!!

oregon scientific atc3k

it struggles a bit when there's a strong contrast, say between sea and sky, but pointing down at the harbour it seems OK.
