some of you old timers, who can remember the days when we flew naish AR5's and 6'6" directionals may remember the lovely laurel, an american snowboarder working with dolphins in paihia, who in the midst of many far-north adventures i inspired to get into kiting.



i remember one summer roadie, when she bought her first kite at kaitaia - a two line stunt kite that she flew on the beach whenever i went riding at stunning beaches around the karikari peninsula. she came with me to the first red bull event at mangawhai and partied hard, then after we went our seperate ways, she moved to oahu, hawaii and ended up teaching kiting - getting nicely fit and tanned along the way.

a couple of times on my way to and from maui, i stayed with her and we went kiting together in the gentle breezes of oahu. one time gavin and myself followed her advice and drove over to mokouleia? and scored one of our best sessions of the trip.

anyway, alert trawlers of the web / kiting magazines will have already come across laurel - miss kite babe of the month - she is now charging the pro circuit and winding men up on beaches all over the planet, with her aloha spirit, and let's face it - great rack!

Wierd, I was at that event at totally fail to remember her being there which is strange because, as you pointed out, great rack!!!

that could have been because (very fortunately) you weren't staying in my caravan up on the 'ill geeza, were you?

if you're anything like me, your recollections of the various red bull sagas are a little hazy at the best of times and have merged into a technicolour throbbing migraine whenever you think about any particular detail. my tongue is still blue and i get the shakes whenever i use my impressive collection of white red bull towels, inherited off all the losers who stayed at my place on their way home.

the only things that really stand out after many, many parties are flash and tanya getting it on, cookie getting it off, mike raper drilling in and me damn near getting gang raped on my 30th birthday in the big tent.

laurel was actually there that night - i remember because i lost her sunglasses while fighting off a scrum of my so called mates. the only thing that saved my white ass was the sudden intervention of a couple of bigger rugby mates - one of which was a youthful troy flavell (shane murrell's nephew), now famous for stomping some luckless geeza's swede on some rugga field.

i'm sure some of you remember the entrance laurel and i made that night - she perched on the handlebars of a bicycle that i piloted into the campsite at a fair clip as i recall.

anyway - enough blowassing, i just got back from a party farewelling shayne and barbs off to europe and have packing to do as i've just become a ho-moaner and am doing the big shifty this weekend.
