Anyone here riding the 2004 Cabrinha C02? Anyone using the RECON system? Would be good to hear some comments before I buy the stuff, so any info is welcome. Cheers

Well looking on some of the overseas forums, the recon systems are starting to fail due to faults with there stainless steel rings, there all breaking in the welds.
On the beach or way out in the bay there letting go so be careful there.

It can be a good idea to look for a bar system that the IKO says is ok.

I know Flexifoil is and I would think Naish would be as well and no doubt there are others.

RECON = lotsa knots - unless you tie the pigtails up real good. RECON all very well on water - but when you go walk toward your kite, it fills up with air again and takes off - so you have to grab the steering lines and pull it in just like a regular kite. Also - the 17 seems OK with the RECON system, but damned if I know how to activate it proper on my 12 - I just end up launching it like a normal kite. Good aspect is you don't need a grab leash, and it does depower quick with the option of relaunching when with a normal kite you'd have to swim home and start over again. They fly well and I'm fairly happy, but will seriously think of another brand unless they iron out the (little) bugs. Also, you have to seriously shorten the back lines before you launch the first time - they're WAY too long (guys at WSP know about this now). Look for a 04 CO2 user at SHoal, Meola or Orewa and talk to us.

On second thoughts - was out at Meola yesterday with the 17 - which I ditched a few times. Pulling on those little balls (not mine) as hard as I could - ended up launching the kite the normal way. RECON DON'T WORK. Go buy some other brand.

IVE GOT BOTH 12 AND 17 2004 BT NITROS AND WAS SUSPECT AT FIRST.LIKE ANYTHING THE MORE YOU USE THEM THE MORE YOU GET TO KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT IN DIFFERNT SITUATIONS.
SURE PLENTY OF PEOPLE SEEM TO WANT TO KNOCK THEM AND OF COURSE THE SYSTEM ISNT YET PERFECT BUT ON THE COUPLE OF TIMES IVE NEEDED IT THE DEPOWER HAS BEEN TOTALY INSTANTANIOUS.
I CAN AGREE THAT ONCE THE KITE IS DOWN YOU DO HAVE TO GO DOWN THE BRAKE LINES TO DEPOWER THE KITE ENOUGTH TO REASSEMBLE THINGS ,AND PUTTING IT BACK TOGETHER WITH OUT GETTING CROSS OVERS ETC CAN TAKE SOME TIME.
THE THING IS WHEN I USE THAT LITTLE RED BALL IM LESS INTERESTED IN ANYTHING BUT THE BAD SITUATION IM IN AT THAT VERY MOMENT.
RELANCHING WISE YES THE 12 SEEMS TO TAKE OFF STRIGHT DOWN WIND FULL POWER BUT IVE FOUND YOU CAN CONTROL THINGS OK WITH HOW MUCH YOU PULL THE BRAKE LINES
IVE HAPPLY FORGOTTEN HOW MUCH OF A PAIN A LEASH CAN BE WHILE
STILL FEELING IN CONTROL OF MY AND OTHER PEOPLES SAFETY

Well yes I've just found another really good use for those little red balls. I threaded them all on to a string separated by knots at 5cm spacings. The girlfreind loves it, although anal love beads need to be washed regularly.

Re: RECON 8 years, 3 months ago #1909

so you use a permanent shackle right?

Re: RECON 8 years, 3 months ago #1910

the shackle Q was to mr CAPITOL LETTORS...
I'm sure Tangle has a permanent shackle to keep his girl/bor friend tied to the bed

HAVE NO NEED FOR LITTLE LETTERS IN MY LIFE, JUST ANOTHER TIME WASTER.
NO , I NEVER HAVE AND NEVER WILL CONNECT VIA A SHACKLE
IN THE SAME WAY I DONT PUT DOG LEADS ON TO CAR TOW BALLS...
ITS JUST STUPID

P.S. 8 years, 3 months ago #1929

I ALSO FORGOT TO TALK ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU HAVE TO PUMP UP THE LEADING EDGE. I DONT KNOW ABOUT CO2S BUT NITROS HAVE TO BE PUMPED IN TILL YOU CANT PUMP NO MORE, OTHER WISE WHEN YOU CRASH THEM THE WANT TO TURN INSIDE OUT

Re: RECON 8 years, 3 months ago #1943

well mr CAPS that deletes the last three words of your post regarding "other peoples safety"
without a permanent attachment to the C loop you are effectively riding leashless and a danger to everyone/thing down wind of you

Re: RECON 8 years, 3 months ago #1947

Well - finally got the RECON to work on the 17. You just have to pull really, really, really hard + pull around 1 to 1.5m of line in to unseat the bullet - 'cause unseating the bullet is the trick, but kinda misleading when they tell ya you only have to pull the little red or black ball, unless you have a 5 foot reach... Now amping to try it on the 12...

I have 3 recon Co2's, they are wicked kites. There is a technique to relaunching them just like there is relaunching any other kite but i do know that i can relaunch my 17m in about 4 knots of wind, and i would like to see any other kite deep water relaunch in that sort of shit. Also having a depower system that does not require a leash is good. I dont gat any tangles when spinning and still have all the safety of a complete depower. The kites are also just plain good kites, despite what lee from anabatic says about them. Just look at who is the world champion and what kites he rides (also recon equipped). I think that a lot of the views expressed in this forum are uninformed and just plain stupid! Try actually seeing a kite and using it before you bullshit about it.
