The outright world record for kites has been smashed a couple of times this week with Seb Cattelan - hitting the 500m at 46.71 kts
and Sjoukje Bredenkamp setting a new womans benchmark at - 39.75 kts!

Sjoukje Bredenkamp has just pushed through the 40kt barrier for the first time! Her new world record now stands at 40.23kts over 500m!

Alex Caizergues retakes his World Record with a blistering 47.77 less than 1knot off of the OUTRIGHT record by Finian Maynard on a Windsurfer....
Unlike Finian who set this record a year ago... and no windsurfer has been close since.... Alex and the others are hitting new peaks every week!!!
You would have to say the outright World speed record will belong to a kite very soon!!
Top speeds of 54 to 56 knots were reported .... thats over 100kilometres per hour!

I heard of a 43knot 2sec set in ChCh by Aaron Smith on Friday...

And Su ran a 37.8 two second average last week on the Kaipara - a personal best!

Today, the last of the challenge, produced the goods for Sjoukje. Following Alex Caizergues down the strip she produced an epic 42.35kts over the 500m. Winds slamming through @ 40+ and with her 5m Helix she brushed Karin Jaggi's previous best aside with a stunning run.

Alex Caizergues pushes his WR to 47.92 kts just shy or the 48kts mark. An incredible feat!

It wont be long and kites are going to hold the outright World Speed Record!

I was in Langebaan (Cape Town) last week.

Guess who my waitress was.. !! yup none other than Sjoukje Bredenkamp.

Interview with Sjoukje in the next edition Wind and Kite.....when compared to recent history of speedsailing... windsurf and kite.. this is an impressive effort for an 18 year old !

What has long been considered the holy grail of speedsailing ... a 50 knot 500metre speed run has been smashed last weekend by Tilmann...
top speeds hitting nearly 55 knots this is seriously fast and the first time a run over 50 knots has been recorded

Given the current alltime ratified record is 48.6 Tilmanns 50.9 bodes well for Kiters taking the official record in the near future!

Seb and Alex set some insane speeds at a practise run for the upcoming event at Luderitz...... top speeds of 57 knots....
