Im moving to NZ in Sept, the wife is set on Titirangi. Is there many kiteable beaches round there?

I have had a search but cant find much, Is there a post anywhere on here which lays out the good spots round Auckland.

Cheers,

Plenty of spots and not a lot of kiters! I live further out towards the harbour mouth... be aware the Manukau has a strong tidal flow.. 6 to 7 knots in places so it can turn to custard pretty quick..
from the heads back...
Huia bay works in a summer SW... good thermal up the valley and 1 k of shallow water ..not so hot in winter as the SW becomes violently gusty around the hills
Kaitarakihi.. good launch into the outer harbour... mainly windsurfers and only works in a SW
Cornwallis Beach ..easy launch except high works North / NE / E /SE
bit crowded in summer with other beachgoers
Armour bay ... inner harbour launch .. low tide only SW... long walk through the mud to launch but good channel sailing
Jenkins bay... huge channel swell SW but launching and landing from rocks and need a mate to get kite in the air and drop it..(pays to be friendly to the local windsurfers to get out here) low tide only
French Bay SW/S low tide water launch... good area of inner harbour to play in
Wood Bay NE low tide launch
Green Bay low tide launch and sail out into the speed channels SW

most of the manuaku is launching direct into deep water channels but Cornwallis is pretty safe in all condtions but low tide keeps you away from other beachgoers ...Kaitarakihi gives some of the best windsurfing and kiting auckland has got!

Titirangi is an easy drive from most Auckland beachs ... so its worth the fantastic living environment for the extra drive sometimes!

Enjoy Chris

PS.... I should have also said ... only Huia and Cornwallis are suitable for learners ... stay well clear of all other manukau spots until you are very competant at not only kiting but also self rescue as there are not many sailors or even boats out on the manukau... the ability to swim 1 k with your gear would be handy!!!
