Hi guys,

Last year round this time I (Eddy) was traveling trough NZ (specially the north island) and testing my prototype boards. Some may remember me, I ve mainly been kiting with my caution kites at Orewa, Muriwai and Taranaki area. Had a real good time in Kiwiland, especially liked the big waves at Kina Road

Check www.x-tremeboards.com to see what the production boards are like that I was testing last year

@ Shaan and Hippie: The ,,boost ya mamma" model didn't make it. Too hard for the Dutchies to understand.

See Ya,

Eddy Lansink

HI Eddy,

Looks like it's all going well for you!
Sweet video too.

Hey whats the water temp like over there at the moment, I'll be in the area for a bit of kiting real soon. So do i need a new wettie or what?
Looked awful cold in the video, but then that might be old footage.

Check our latest clip on www.anabatickiteboarding.com

Later Lee

Hey Lee, Nice video, I can't believe it has taken you 5 years to edit your old footage.
Would have been a hot video in 2000.
See Ya Adrian

Water temp is about 10 degrees right now I think, but the air temperature is really good. I use a 5/3 wetsuit from october to june. In mid summer shorty's are OK.

This video was made in the beginning of march.

Where are you going to in Holland?

Hi Eddy,

I will hit Belgium first then Holland, Spain and a few other spots I hope.
About 4 of us hitting the area, Corne is a local and will be there too so he might show us some local spots.
Should be fun. Might see you on a beach some where.
I am keen to check out the Euro Kiting scene for a few weeks. Should be fun!

For a start... Im from Christchurch... I ride Underground (06-FLX32)... But i fly 07 "BEST", foot in both camps you could say.. but Lee your Vid is wicked no matter the vintage, And the effort you put into your site/s is highly commended and its a bloody shame some of my "Locals" dont follow suit... To hell with it the Underground site is rubbish and if it wernt for their amazing artist that scribbles on there boards they wouldnt sell half as much id say!
As For the "BEST" Website, show me another kite manufacturers site that gives so much back to their riders.... tonnes of forum even if it is mostly all bias, tonnes of insane footage, tonnes of product info and Glossy pics to drawl over.... Learn from that Adrian; you have the sexiest Boards in the industry but what are you doing... hiding them in ferrymead.... WHAT THE!?
I could go on but i'll wait for some "feedback" in closing thou i know its a small industry still in NZ especially CHCH but if we could get an ANABATIC level of service in Christchurch.... I know a few people that would be a lot happier and id be one of them!

jeez Martin your reaction time is 5 minutes...

as an unsponsored kiter who can buy and use what he likes i choose to do just that. i have my foot in both camps in regards to underground and best (note lack of capitals). I like both companies in regards to performance. My underground flx 122 ROCKS in flat water. nothing else i've had comes close. It's also very light, far lighter than the best boards which to be honest are heavy... but BEST boards are very tough (may explain why they are heavy) so won't snap in half in hard landings (wakestyle and new skool seem to all involve hard landings due to kite not being used as a parachute). I use both. i allready have a float which is a WIKKKKED light wind and general purpose training machine (ie no show ponying but doin da hard yards solo). For old skool da flx is supreme as itz so light. i do plan on getting a DECAY or a DVNT board later on to compliment my FLX. For newskool a very small BEST drive is on the shoppin list... a 122 or similiar.

as for the kites. i've started with peter lynn (C Quad reprazent!!) and had NAISH for my first LEI kites. Their C kites were great (and still are imo) but their chickenloops leave a lot to be desired on the bar (2002 technology there). I also used Wipika kites (2002 hydro which was the best wakestyle kite ive ever used.. well tied with the best bullaroo anyway.. pity i wasn't into wakestyle back then in 05 or i would have kept it). The chickenloop on the 02 throttle bar was AWESOME.. best quick release imo is the one where the CL detaches from the depowerline. The best CLQL isn't as good as wipika/cabrinha etc but better than naish. As for their kites.. they are VERY wakestyle this year. The waroo is the least wakestyle of their 07 kites. A pity their bar is geared more towards old skool riding.
CL too small to hook in easily but for old skool deadmans that adjustable stopper bung is da king!! i used to think the waroo was wakestyle until is used the bullaroo for a while and then went back to the waroo.. um maybe not that wakestyle hahahaha. then again that was the 06. 07 waroo definately more stable.

I checked out WSP (Stockists of Cabrinha) and their CLs are damn good and their stock big mutha CLs as addons hahahaha. easy to hook into and no dingdong to get in da way. wakestylaz paradise imo... oldskoolers nightmare of course but dats ok... just bring da BEST bar out... you'll need to change kites anyway (ie go up a couple of sizes hahahaha) so no biggie.

datz long winded rantingz i know but i'm just making a point that i don't suck up to anyone or anything. if i was sponsored i'd be fired by now but cos i'm not i can say what i want.

PS: Adrian you mite wanna consider introducing some "Underground Girls" to flaunt those sexy graphics...

wooooop

ok i got a bit sidetracked.... so i'll say my bit about service and stores.

The BEST website is wicked.. it has everything... gloss, glam, girls, forum, very very professional... not that i really care that much bout that sorta thing (i prefer the raw down-to-earth rough stuff.... faster for my internet connection lol) but i'm sayin it cos its true.. their site is damn good.

Equally the same with both of Lee's sites. nzkiteboarding.com is more professional than anything else i've seen come out of NZ in regards to kitesurfing. Him and Ian R are computer masters and it shows. But in saying that it's very regulated. I love this forum in that fact that Shaan lets everyone have their say. Lee's very trigger happy on his site and will delate and ban anything that he disagrees with or is "insulting". I've been banned from there before 4 speaking "grom" (ie talking about my nana being a kickass kiter and being stupid with blair and charl who incidently were NOT banned for doing the same thing). the three of us were having fun but Lee saw it differently. That's cool.. it's his site.. you play by HIS rules.. the price you pay for professionalism? perhaps... oh yes you have to use your real name which i guess isn't a bad thing. some have called it another bestkiteboarding.com cos of the BEST propoganda there. there are reviews of underground boards on there and buy and sell of all sorts of stuff... so can't agree with those who think it's another BEST site... but there is certainly dominated by stuff about BEST.... cos that's what a lot of people ride out my way (it's cheap and does the job well... why not? we don't get paid enough in NZ to buy flysurfer kites and akl conditions require lots of kites (varying wind and harsh beaches out my way hahahahaha!!)).

Martin have you ever been to Anabatic? didn't think so..... Lee takes REAL good care of his customers and his service is outstanding from what i've experienced.. and he's great to have a chat to as well.... allways got plenty to say and so have i hahahahaha. Jess is also a great dude. Those who diss Anabatic have never been there!!

But as mentioned before i don't kiss Lee's ass. He doesn't sponsor me so why should i? But i'll say wots true and i've just said it...hahahaha.

Do i think everywhere else sux? no way!! All NZ kiteshops i've been to are great, nice laid back guys who are happy to help. Kiteworks obviously is my origional stomping ground and Perrin and Kent (and Johnny hahahaha) i've known since 1999 and they are the craziest muthas i've ever met and they ROCK! Real loyal too, no job too big or too small for them and i allways bvring my broken bladders and ripped kites to them cos they do such a good job. in my pre-best days i got some wicked deals from them.. including that kickass Wipi hydro... kickass on a pulleybar, wakestyle mania and plenty of free boards.. i still have them all and use them all!! (ps still yet to lug my fat ass up to their hanging bar and do a dangle pass on it hahahaha)

I've been to WSP a few times now and will do so again cos of my interest in Cabrinha gear (bar and maybe a switchblade). The guys there are excellent. Jamie was real helpful in chatting about LF and Cabrinha kites and a real nice person too and still came to work a day after winning da nats... now that's service!!

And of course i'm gonna pimp my local - Tamaki Sailboards for the years of outstanding service they've given me over the years in both windsurfing and kitesurfing. PS: that Niash XEON trainer kite rulz.. however yet to watch all those DVDs hahaha. I'm very careful with kite DVDs as you allways wanna charge off to the beach and kite afterwards so of course timing is everything (ie not in marginal conditions, thunderstorms or late evening at sunset etc.. best at night and in NO WIND!!.)

hahahahahaha so as you can see i'm not a Lee OR BEST groupie. I'm untamed unsponored and will say what i like..... hahahahahahaha!!!!

PS: Have yet to sample the southern hospitality of chch but hope to one day leave the sandpit for another hahahaha.... ps is the estuary a sandpit or is it more a cesspit?? hahahaha

Hahaha classic and i thought i went over the top...
Man the estuary does stink for sure but its pretty damn good really.
As for Lees bias opinion check out BESTs forum on their new "Hybrid" Yarga he certainly gives them some feedback there...
And by the way im no suck up either i just appreciate good service when i get it.
And you may have guessed ive had some bad service from one of my locals... The estuary dosnt stink that much its actually the arrogance you can smell from one of the near by shops...

Ahh the InterWeb... Power to the People ! !

Can't wait to kite the estuary. i like stinky places cos then there is less people to whinge. Can't stand proper beaches in summer. Too many complaints and estuaries allways seem to have more wind too.... bring on da poo poo. out east auckland way plenty of estuaries, Pine Harbour, skull island, no beachgoers there and not many issues at Bramley either.. all places work well over summer. Eastern beach is certainly more for OUTSIDE summer... ie Fall, winter.... kickass conditions then.

gonna upload an eastside clip soon to youtube and kiteforum.tv. PS: i apologise in advance for the large BEST representation.. i think every single kiter out this way has at least one waroo in their quiver... lol

btw the clip is 45 minutes long and terrible sound quality.. ie thrasher production skills hahahahaha

 Ohhh Belle your so right... thanks for putting things in perspective, its weird what happens to you when you have a month of no wind... Sitting in front of the computer with a box of beer and giving every one a wind up is probably not the best option even if funny at the time hahaha

I have given myself a swift uppercut and now feel much better for it.
Now thinking only happy thoughts
