depends how far you want to go and budget etc. had a blast on futreventura last year (canary islands off the coast of africa, but part of spain) and heading back again this winter. just a long way....

check out www.flagbeach.com
main spot, but heaps of secluded spots all round the island. and check out the wind stats!!

Hi,
Just got back from Vietnam and rate it as an awesome destination. It is completely different to the pacific Islands and Australia etc. I stayed in MuiNe Beach which is an exciting four hour taxi ride from HoChiMin city.
It is cheap to stay and the food is great friendly people with a great atmosphere. They have a great setup there.
I have emailed the place i stayed at to get a better idea what season works the best.
Thanks adrian

I was around MuiNe beach for two days and typically the wind was lame. I got out but was not really powered on a 12m. This or a 9m is the normal size for this area. They have riding off the beach, cross shore and waves up the coast and some flat water lakes. We rented a bus for one million vietnam dollars and did a trip for two hours down the coast one day. Heaps to see and lots of fun. I stayed at "Mellow" prices are US$6-15 per night with discounts for folks staying one month or longer. 90% kiters staying in the area and on a busy day 100 kites are normal. Lots of Russians, Dutch and Americans satying there now. Good options for down winders.
Seafood eating is totally amazing. all for around US$2 per meal
There was one guy staying there for US$120 per month for a serviced apartment. You can buy a brand new motorbike for US$300 or just catch a ride on the back or a motorbike for around 20 vietnam dollars.
Have some photos but not sure how to post them. maybe email me if you are interested.
See YA Adrian

MuiNe beach works best over our summer, when you get wind from the the south. In our winter the wind blows from the north and it ain't so good.
It is a super cheap place to be once you get there, and there sure are great places nearby (HoChiMinh, etc) - but is a long way to go for average (Orewa-styles) kiting - but again is a fantastic cultural holiday which can more than make up for so-so kiting (where else can you dine on dog for nix?) and the indochine ladies really are drop dead hot (& cheap...)

If you're really keen during our winter, Maui or Oahu, or the Gorge (Oregon) are the nearest sure things and are awesome spots. Anywhere esle is fickle - just pot luck.
