See that there are cheap flights to tahiti late Feb ($470 inc taxes)

Has anyone been there, heard anything about kiting there, or know any website or links that tell you about conditions over there?

not too sure but check the ozone website. chasta's wife is tahitian and he spent at least last summer there, or is that winter? but anyway the footage was incredable.
Getting out there, and taking others with me!

There are some good spots on Tahiti Island other than Venus Point (where I rode) I am told - parlez avec le locals I guess. I think I built it up too much in my mind - its not quite the Tahiti as shown in magazines etc.. My bro rode Bora Bora and says that goes off! French Pacific is all about the $$$

If you end up getting le truck (the bus - forget taxis unless you are fortunate) to go kiting at Venus point don't get off at the Venus point stop! You need to carry on a km or so/maybe more to where most kite. Carrying all my kit a couple of km did me in! And the tourism office in Papeete - walk straight past when it comes to kitesurfing.

Hi.
I kited on Moorea a couple of years back during a week in early October. It can be a pain to get around on Moorea as there are no Taxi's or buses (Le Truck). There are however shuttle buses that each hotel have to get you around (from the ferry terminal and airport to the hotel only), or you could rent a car (Fiat Panda NZ$80 per day if you really want to get to the spots).
Locations, well there are bascially two main ones however the local have a few others where they lauch off boats into the middle of the lagoon/channels. There's one near the ferry terminal (didn't kite there but had a look - the locals beach). The best spot would be near the Intercontinential resort. That's a 4 star resort so expect a 4 star price! Very nice though!

For those wanting a cheaper trip then I'd head next door to Les Tipaners where you can walk outside you bungalow and launch straight off the beach! The french champ flysurfs here and is amazing to watch!!

Once again they will transport you from the Moorea airport or the Ferry terminal.

Food. Yes Tahiti is expensive so if you're still keen then I'd advise you get a accommodation and food package otherwise you will blow your budget! We had breakfast and dinner included in ours.

To give you an idea of price, our trip was our honeymoon and we spent nz$5500, so I'm sure you could do it cheaper.

If I was loaded I'd go back and head out to Bora Bora to the Matira point. I hear its a ridiculously beautiful place to kite!

Enjoy...

Cheers for the heads up. Did a bit of research on accom and food and it's not cheap. Thinking now a better options is to pay slightly more for the flights and go somewhere dirt cheap to stay and get around!

Perhap Fiji when they sort their shit and start chasing the tourist again with the cheap deals!!
