Yes the Raglan Freeride is definately on! and is as much about socializing and having fun on the land as it is about being on the water.

As goblin states there is plenty of buggy space from about half tide, the more the merrier.

The event itself is more Saturday/Sunday while Friday will be for early birds, locals and will be a Slingshot demo day with all 2007 boards plus the 2007 LINK kites and hopefully some 2007 Fuels available to try.

I am looking for a volunteer(s) to run the BBQ on Saturday and Sunday during the day and Saturday night. This would preferably be someone who is not kiting so if your injured or a non kiting partner and want something to do give me a yell. (0274 504508)

More details shortly

OK every one, sorry about the short notice But due to a number of reasons including first and formost the very poor forcast for a Raglan kite weekend, I have made the decision to postpone this years Raglan free ride for two weeks.
If you have made plans and are still keen on going down then Raglan will still be there but the chances of actually kiting are pretty slim.
Of course the freeride is about more than just kiting, however, this is the common denominator and its hard to have a party when your DJ supreme bails on ya...haha.
Anyways the extra 2 weeks will give us a little more time to get organised and hopefully the westerly's will cooperate.
The freeride is a social gathering of a wide cross section of people brought together by this crazy sport. Its a chance to catch up with old friends and make new ones. Its an opportunity to kite one of the best kiteboard locations in NZ and the world in relative safety. (So far we have 3 thundercats and a jetski with surf rescue mat lined up for your security)
Its not a competion although there maybe a couple of competitive twist thrown in.
It is a celebration of life and kiting in memory of good friend and fellow kiter Doug Wisor who passed on doing what we all love just over two years ago.
So stay tuned for more details soon.

The Raglan Freeride is now on for the 18th and 19th November with a Slingshot demo day on friday the 17th

Just a quick heads up, the Raglan Freeride is all set to go this weekend.

Kicking off Friday with a Slingshot Demo day from around 10.30.

High tide is at 8am and low at around 2pm, the sand bars and lagoons at the entrance are working well at the moment with no current so should be fine well after low tide.

Come down early and try the SS Link with the new and vastly improved 4 line bridle and the new 2007 board line up.

Event sign up and Friday night beverages will be whenever we finish on the water in the courtyard between Gag raglan surf shop and the Yot club in Volcom lane.

High tide on Saturday is around 9am with low at 3pm. BBQ and party in Volcom lane and the Yot club in the evening.

Sunday high is 9-30 and low at 3-30. Prize giving and free kite draw will follow the days kiting at the Yot club.

If you are looking for accommodation then ring Tony at Gag or the information center.

I have some cabins at the northern end of the campground and others are camping here. The camp ground also has a large backpacker building.

See ya there

Hi all you's fulla's, it's been a real good series of NW lately & the forecast is looking like we are gonna get some more crankin NW....

Just a wee word of WARNING to any one unfamiliar (or any kiter thats complacent / over familiar!!!) with the Raglan set up:

In STRONG NW the rigging area that everyone likes to congregate on like a mob of sheep becomes a DODGEY PLACE to be flying a kite over as the wind is accelerating & compressing over the bank.... just beyond said bank is the fence/cars/road/powerlines..... so keep your kite low to prevent lofting or better still get someone to catch your kite down on the beach.

At High tide walk 100 metres up the beach to get some space to launch away from the cliff/bank.

There is a good CAR PARK AT THE END OF THE ROAD that accesses the beach in a more suitable place for launching/landing in strong NW......I STRONGLY SUGGEST making use of it in these conditions.

I recently had the horrible experience of seeing a good mate taken to hospital via rescue helicopter & I would like to prevent seeing this happen ever again, so please, everyone take care to appreciate the power of these kites we fly & remember we are at the mercy of the wind.

See youse at the freeride,
SeanO

Yeah all good info from seanO, thanks.
Another point is that the bank and grassy area is eroding away so no jumping down the bank please and respect the locals front lawns.
There is plenty of rigging area on the beach other than at high tide, which is kinda early anyways.

The weekend is shaping up to be epic Raglan conditions with a wind forecast of 20 to 25knots WNW on Saturday and 15 to 20 WSW on Sunday, while the swell looks like peaking on Saturday night at 14 to 18 feet. All according to the trusty, or not so, buoyweather.

As mentioned registration (and drinks on Friday night) at the Yot club, further registration at the beach Saturday morning, if you cant make it in time for either then just approach myself or any one looking vaguely official over the weekend.

Signing up for the event gets you the 2006 Raglan Freeride T shirt(a collectors item in the future no doubt),BBQ food over the weekend, access to the Yot club(a private club), DJ Sat night, eligibility for awards(not necessarily kiting related), in the draw for a Slingshot kite and most importantly makes you part of the biggest kiting/social event on the calendar.

Why would you go to Raglan this weekend. We have the Lake Clearwater Classic at the same time. We have 70 knots predicted and we are also sure to get some snow! Swell should peak around 14cm...
Ask yourself where would you go given the choice!
Have fun
See YA Adrian

HaHa... get your sorry arse on a plane and head north!

I hear you about clearwater though and the clash, which is why the event was originally scheduled for 2 weeks ago. Not that, as far as I'm aware, anyone actually booked to come up from the far south.

Have fun... we will be!
