From Raglan its probley worth heading asross to Mt Manganui/Tauranga
great kiting if the wind kicks in and long white sand beaches
if it's not blowing it sucks

no shortage of wind in Wellington. in Jan this year i just drove straight down there overnight and didn't stop on the way. no need... Wellington is where it's at for wind....... no currents needed.
eastern beach hates my guts because i did a big crap in my wetsuit whilst out there kiting 6 years ago. That's why i'm the most unpopular kiter in NZ. Beast from da east reprazent mutha f#$$%@ers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

don't be a wuss..... get out there.

but yeah Kapiti coast kicks ass. If it's over 30 knots NW in the harbour then kapiti coast is wicked.

lyall bay for SE
seatoun for northerly
eastbourne for a light (under 30 knots) NW
petone for a southerly

then there is lake ferry.......

I'm just anotha Auckland kiter settling into life in Wellington. Went out to Waikanae on Sat as the forecast NW was meant to be kickin! BUT.......it only got to a shitty 12 knots during a massive 30second gust...

I hope Wellington gets better than this. Does anyone know of any accurate/reliable weather-wind sites for the Wellington area?
Cheers

ask Lori if you seen him on thebeach in Waikanae if u can call him for up current wind conditions and call wellington airport (3871980), they are usually helpful.

wind.co.nz does the job. there are a few wind meters if u search google, otherwise just learn what it needs to be blowing in the harbour for your spot to work.

Wind around this time of year follows this pattern in the NW

Wellington Airport 35 plus
Plimmerton 20-25
Waikanae 15-20

If its crap at waikanae, plimmerton is always a good chance, plimmerton is better on bow kites cos it tends to get a bit savage in the gusts as a tourist found out the other week.

For wind info wind.co.nz is OK for Plimmerton and the city, for accurate Waikanae readings use

www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDa...ory.asp?ID=IWAIKANA1

For location information use www.kitesurfers.co.nz/ the main locations these days are Lyall, Plimmerton and Waikanae. For the mad ones Kuku Beach is also a go.

Wellington rocks this time of year and there is only a handful of us go out

Awesome guys. Thanks for the info. I'm looking forward to meeting a few more kiters out there.
As for trying spots, I'll give anything a try once. A few gusts never stopped me before... only been to hospital once so far.. lol

Lets pray for a long hot windy summer in Wellington. hehehe!

So the shredster finally emerges from the Wellington social scene to re-engage in kiting! Thought you had given up dude. All good here - had a first go on 'bow' type kites the other day and with AKL wind (up and down and around and about), they are the way to go. Shoal Bay crew the other day were segregated into two camps - bow kite riders doing suicidal looking kite loops and C kiters like me mostly just crapping ourselves and doing the odd low risk maneuver.

Oh Yeah back on the scene dude. Only just getting back into the grove and trying to build a new kite crew. Must get "Doli" back out on the water again. I think her kites have cobwebs for lines these days.
Haven't flown the bows yet. Maybe one day, for now happy flying my Lifts.. Can't wait for the next decent wind here.....need to carve up some waves again.............
