TOPIC: Wanakite 2006-Sept 8, 9 & 10

Wanakite 2006-Sept 8, 9 & 10 5 years, 9 months ago #10062

Oh Yeah !
Plenty of pow pow this year for some great sessions snowkiting in Wanaka. There's a good base & August is set to dump, September to blow...
Wanakite is all about friends getting together & experiencing some of the best snow kite action available in New Zealand !
This year we have the all clear from Snowfarm, Cardrona Valley Rd to set up & kite to our hearts content (for a nominal fee) plus hopefully hit the back of Cardrona Skifield across the valley. I've been getting blasted by emails regarding this years event. Basically it's a freeride with as little organisation as possible, this way we're almost guaranteed epic conditions.
All I can say is, if you don't Wanakite, you'll probably be able to check it out on Sky!
Hope you can make it, Tim 8)

Yep, The object being, the more people-the more fun, snowkiting is the most insane kiting experience off the water, easier than kitesurfing, about as easy as kite landboarding or buggying & you don't even have to be a snowboarder, it's all about the kite & your board skills cross over, plus you only need 5-10 knots of wind to ascend a hill & jump huge!
The guys in Wanaka are getting out all the time, it's so accessible!

Sounds like a great event organised by the usual SI legends...
I would love to come but not sure if the IRD will let me.... I just got recalled by the auditors after escaping to french polinesia for a couple of months, narowly escaping imprisonment on arrival - I am now breaking rocks for the MAN.

If I am able to loose the chains and hitch my sorry ass to chch; is there likely to be any room in someones vehicle for a broke stoker... plus a small corner of floorspace in a friendly QT locals garage...

Aloha

Be there for Wanakite from Dunedin. I've got a place about an hour out of Wanaka and could do with a contact mobile number so i can hook up with the masses.

Last year Sat at the snow farm waiting for wind while everyone else cranked at Cardrona !!!!

Thanks,
Phil

The snow's been getting a bit slushy in places the last couple of weeks, but it's now forecast to dump tomorrow down to 500m!

So any doubters should stop umming and arring and have a bloody go and get there!!

Beautiful day on Thursday, 8-13 knots from the north, kited a few hectares of terrain, soft spring snow, quite a bit of tussock coming through in places.
Friday, very light, still quite a few kited round, Film crew got some shots, they were pleased, then southerly change brought light snow.....more wind please!
