The Snowfarm have put together a package of accomodation & meals for $100 pp per day...this gives riders a chance to hang out & swap stories, plus get the 'first tracks' after fresh snow falls, plus those secret sessions that come up late in the day once everyone has left...

My idea is to head to Wellington via the Kite4M vehicle on Wed 25th August. Catch the ferry and either jump on a possible bus that Shane is looking into organising or carry on driving. May even fly to Christchurch if I have an empty vehicle and the buses wheels come off.

If you are heading down from the North and are planning on coming to Wanakite 2010, can you either PM me, post into this topic or write on the event wall on Facebook.

Would be great to know who is going so that we can plan togther to save money and get ORGANISED!

If any Aussies are thinking off coming over for this event, please let me know and I will suggest accomodation and transport arrangements.

Snowkiting till the break-a-dawn...

12pm 25th August to 5th September 4pm 2010 in Wanaka, New Zealand is Wanakite 2010.

This week long snow kiting event is celebrating its 10th year running and has built up a world wide reputation as being one of the best.

Jason Liddiard from KiteForum.co.nz interviews Sam Dee from Brisbane who flew over for his very first Wanakite. Riding from day one, Sam had a great time and is back again this year. Here is Sam telling us about his trip last year and some shots of the Wanakite playground, Snowfam, Wanaka.

Looks like fun. Any folks going from Dunedin? Is this a hardcore event, or does it suit all sorts? Will people laugh at me for going to Snow Farm for a day (they probably should)?

Snowkiting is pretty new to the majority of most NZ kiteboarders, so no Quidity you won't stick out like dogs bulls if you're sliding across the mountain on your face
Most kitesurfers pick it up quick, most kiteboarding skills transfer very quickly when on the mountain.

Every kitesurfer should try snowkiting, it's a blast.

Oh and everybody should try snowkiting at least once in their life - and in my opinion its way easier to learn to snowkite than waterkite, so if you know any newbies get them out there too!

Snow kiting rocks, might even have to come back early from Brazil to attend.
This was from a 2 seasons ago with 2 hours of snow kiting experience. It was very quick to pick up on skis.

So true Michelle. My mate Sam Dee is living proof of that. Possibly one of NZ's first to learn to Snow Kite BEFORE he ever Kite surfed!!!

Got bored with the man flu today, so put a video together to distract me from the 20-30 knot Lyall session today. The Snow kite footage was mostly shot up at snow farm last season.

One week to go!!!
Between the jetlag and the excitement, I had enough time to mess around with this today

holy crap - didn't realise it was this weekend. I have arranged four days of QTown / Wanaka boarding as of this Friday and didn't even think to check the dates of the festival

Never snow-kited before and think the missus may have something to say if I start packing the kites as well

BUT

if I was to sneak one in the board bag roughly which size would I have the best chance with (how long is a piece of string, I know, I know) but IF ....

Looks good for the start of Wanakite....perfect 10m weather

smaller kite is a better bet, the wind goes up as you go up the hill , easy to hide a smaller kite too

Kited 6 out of 6 Days i was in attendance.
Spent alot of time testing the new 2011 Ozone Depower Foils with my Ozone Team mates Olly B, Torrin, Dan Joblin and the man himself Matt Taggart.
The new Frenzy is absolutely incredible! Pumped up on a massive batch of steroids from the 2010 model its hugely improved in all aspects.
I especially loved the turning & loop speed of the 11m which was as fast if not faster than the 2010 9m. It was smooth and way more stable than previous years, promoting confidence for those big airs off the slopes. Love it!!
Also super impressed with the 13m. Turn speed was awesome for a foil of its size and its light wind capabilities were unbelieveable. The only kite flying and still hauling us along in the near 3 knot winds on one particular day. Its the Zephyr of the snow!!

Great to make new friends on the NZ kite scene (my first event apart from the moose last year)and awesome to witness the mad skills of some crazy Kiwi riders.

STOKED and still amping now!!

What an amazing 9 days at Wanakite!
Thanks to everybody who helped organise a hugely successful event, and thanks to all those who came and made it one to remember.
