Hopefully see you there. Pray that wind spins a bit more to the west or even better north.

So my wife had wanted to cycle over the Tongariro crossing, during the NY holiday, but I said where the fuck would i fly a kite? (true story)
Hmm, to kitesurf or to landboard? That is the question for a kite addicted junkie.

the 42 traverse. (tongariro crossing) is a worthy track to mountain bike Deano. do it. organise someone to drop you off at the start and ride to owhango. gives you a 600mm decent over 42km.

Come on down there is plenty to do. I own a lodge in National Park, we have transport departing daily to both the crossing and the 42 traverse.

Deano, drop me a pm if you interested. Note - Department of Conservation do not allow bikes on the Tongariro Crossing!!!! you will loose your bike for good within 50m of the carpark.

Plummet is close -

The Tongariro crossing is a 8hr walk across the Tongariro plateau from Mangatepopo to Ketetahi. Now known as "the Tongariro Alpine Crossing"

The 42 traverse is a 39km bike ride from Kapoors rd to Owhango (follows the 42nd latitude). It passes through a area known as the Tongariro forest (not the Tongariro crossing). It's a 20min ride from National park to the start and a 50 minute ride back from the end (all uphill)or a $30 bus ride dropoff and pickup.

Other good rides are - Fishers track 2.5hr with 26km downhill, The pines 12km loop trails, John macdonald loop a 30km slog with 300m decent and then a 300m vertical assent (quite a leg burner), there are many others.

Kite wise there is the Chateau golf course, lake Taupo or lake Rotoaira.

Happy to help out if your keen.
