Ok Gents its official.

I will hold the Naki Nutbuster on 29,30 Jan

Low tides are

12.20 on saturday
1.30 sunday

Fitzroy beach will be the primary beach with options for a few other beaches depending on wind angle.

Race HQ will be at the Waiwakihi end of the beach (north end) as this is the least populated by people.

Our patch of sand will be between waiwkiho River mouth and Fitzroy Surf club. This time of year the surf club area is pretty packed with people.

I'll be on the Beach from 10 Saturday and 11 sunday.

Wind generally runs cross on and will give us about 4 hours of descent beach. if its onshore then we will have longer to play with.

The feature race will be 1pm saturday. Race breif 12.50. If conditions are not favourable then we will hold the feature race 1.30pm Sunday.

Expect some silly races and games. like longest skid, biggest splash. backwards racing. longest jump!

There is a camp ground right on Fitzroy beach

yellow.co.nz/companies/Holiday-Parks-&am...100232575_14974.html

If there is a location change i'll post it up here the night before. if you don't have internet access then call me on 0274 973 929.

Final note. this beach is very changable. we can have anything from wet soft beach with deep puddles to boulders poking out to hard and fast all within a day or two of each other. one thing is guaranteed. it wont be a simple race backwards and forwardsing. there'l be zigging and zagging and dodging of stuff!.

PS wheels of doom man can also race!!! come on down Dan!

There'l be no heads up on the track as the beach changes sooo much. it will be turn up on the day and figure out a track!! i'm sure i can factor in some big pools of water boulders and drift wood!!! if there ain't enough drift wood then we will have drag some on to the beach.

If the wind turns southeast then theres a few beaches around the coast with little dunes that we may use if need be.

Sounds exciting. Are we able to bring our own boulders or do we have to use the regulation ones? If we can bring our own, can you please provide the specifications ie dimensions weight, and geological category. I just don't want to be caught out on the day and get disqualified. I think boulders from Wellington will really set this event off.

By means bring your own boulders!!! there's is no limitation to the type or size. However extra points will be awarded if you can supply terminal moraine!!

PS bottle up some of that wind from welly and bring it with you!!! and i'm not talking about eating baked beans!

Terminal Moraine!!! The nearest glacier is down in the south island. It's gonna add kms to my trip, but if you think it's worth it I guess. Not sure it'll fit in the van, have to take the trailer.

Anyways, I have been making the appropriate noises to the spousal control unit and a journey up north sounds promising.

yep unless we have no wind then it will differ to sunday.

sea breaze usually doesn't kick in to 2-3 so sunday will be the better day as far as tide is concerned but bearing in mind that some blokes will want to be heading back it only seems fair to points race on the saturday.

thats the idea. Plan for the Saturday and then we have 2 whole days to get it done if the weather is less than ideal.

Crafar is coming.

Re: Naki Nutbuster Buggy and board race 29, 30 Jan 1 year, 5 months ago #25796

The legend returns. Brett Cudby will be coming out of retirement to defend his title. I believe he won the last Western Circuit meet in Taranaki. He has been out for a long time so we will need to make sure he has kites to fly. If he has half his old form you will see a formidable rider. Or he might be old and slow like me. What ever he is hopefully he will draw Matt Lord back to the beach.

we should call this race, "standing on the shoulders of giants" if thoes guys make it....buggying has come a long way..

we need a back to basics race, all flying c-quads round an 8TRACK without haneses, last guy still in the buggy wins, exept for most awsome O.B.E witch would clinch first place if done with spectacular grandure and finesse.

Well this forum is slow at the moment!....!!!......!

apart from racing around flags what do you buggiers like to do?

Any interest in freestyle? flat land or airborn?

What about tractor pull? Get a massive log (and kite) and see how fast you can tow it down the beach? it screams out pain and broken equipment but should be fun to watch!!

The tractor pull sounds good. I think using a a massive bungy rope to attach the log would cut back on any serious sudden jerks on the body and equipment. Unless it then got caught and suddenly released!

clown racing?? do explain. i'm picturing a dude dress up as a clown and we try to run him down like a bull bashes over teh clowns at the rodeo.

Re: Naki Nutbuster Buggy and board race 29, 30 Jan 1 year, 5 months ago #25862

Pursuit racing is excellent. We used to do a bit of that.
Downside is lots of people waiting around for a heat. Then they go off for a ridse and when you call their name they are 2kms away. If people commit to hanging around I would love to run some pursuit racing.

Tractor pulling happens at the Moose when the boys are gathering firewood. Perrin and Gannet are the current champions. Both of them pulled some serious logs for the 09 fire.

In the past we have had freestyle, 1/4 mile sprints, long course and short course and technical course, Terrain time trials, and a game called resteraunt parking where you do a 180 slide into a parking slot like in the blues brothers movies. We have had midnight challenges and the lads have had done a fair bit of jumping of dunes and tethered flying.

I am keen on a Board high jump if there are more thean Plummet on the beach.

The Naki Nutbuster will be round 1 of the 2011 Wetsren Circuit points champs. We will hopefully have 2 points races and some fun and games.

hahaha.. blues brothers resteraunt parking ... i like it. that is definatly on the cards!

the kids have some little orange cones that would be ideal for this...

i'll do a high jump and distance jump comp. if any else is keen that will be sweet. maybe have to handicap the board for that one as its a lot easier to catch air compared to the buggy.

what about jumping into a bullseye? sorta like resturant parking except you have to jump into the spot or as close to it as possible.

Question? is anyone besided pete and perrin getting air in their buggs?

i use to jump in the vmax when i had my old bigfoots on...it bent, and is now retired as a racing buggy..
i dont have any kit thats setup for jumping...my big buggy will leave a hole in the sky if i try and jump, i messed up with perrins 8m jojo at the moose and foundmyself airborne in it and everything creaked at me..

most fun iv had in the buggy was the terrain time trial at the moose, that was really technical and made you think about angles lots...not so easy to set up on a beach tho but a technical trac through markers would be good, like sheep hurding, but itd be a pain in the ass to set the course full stop..

i vote...other than the nutbuster race track
... persuit racing if we can get it togeather..
... 2man knockout sprintrace but dont know how make the sets fair, ie pitting a newby with perrin!! but id just pull names from a hat to save ballache and see what happens.

and fun events i like would be, the parking thing, that sould be a giggle..
and logpull, i knew my 1120 arc would come in handy one day grunty beefcake of a kite could pull oak trees down like sticks.....

well let us pray for a descent wind that weekend. sacrifice your goats and virgins to the wind gods and do a naked dance around the fire. then and only then will we be guaranteed wind.

I thought of a teams relay race. match the slowest with the fastest and you have to do a couple of laps around the flags before handing over to your team mate.

Also persuit racing with a twist.
2 laps again. one on one. the fastest guy keeps racing the slowest knocked out and someone else takes on the winner. go through everyone until the last man is standing. of course you don't want to put perrin in there first as he will wipe the floor with most competitors.

chololate fish sprint race. Theres 2 fish. First place fish is at the end and second place halfway down the course. So you have to make a call mid way if yoru going for the win or not. usually most guys bypass the halfway fish intend on the win and tail end charlie take the 2 place spot. very funny racing. of course i've done this on mountain bikes not kites....

Re: Naki Nutbuster Buggy and board race 29, 30 Jan 1 year, 5 months ago #25869

Ok I know this is not my meet but it would be nice to have a good long points championship this year.
As discussed earlier Its a good idea to have points races on the Saturday so we have 2 days to get it done in case of poor consitions.

I like the idea of a short race to get everyone in the mood, get a feel for racing at close quaters and give a chance to see relative kite performance. Then have a long feature race. 1 hour was excellent at the Moose. It gave plenty of time to settle in and find ones form. Al and Gannet ended up way back in the pack but got there mojo on and came back battling for 3rd on the last mark.

Its great to have plenty of ideas so we can do what might work depending on the wind and beach.

From experience. Racing, games and time trials all take a lot more time than you think.

2 races and a bit of jamming on saturday and 2 comps on sunday is all we are probably going to get done with ease. Planning on 6 comps in a weekend will need a very strict time schedule and we will all lose the fun element of just riding and stopping for a yak and trying each others gear.

Resteraunt Parking has been done only once. It was on Fitzroy beach. It was so much fun. If its all right with Plummet I would really like to run that again on Sunday afternoon.

I don't mean to take over things but we have done this before and I am quite willing to hold the scorepad.

charlie you are the guru! so any advice you give is taken. there wont be multiple events. i'll select whats most appropriate on the weekend. probably the warm up and feature race plus one other. maybe with notable mentions to best crash etc.

yes there will be an hour feature race. as i'm a distance man i like the long stuff! The feature race will be a technical course of some discription. we wont know what that discription is until that say the beach changes dramatically on a daily basis and the direction of the wind plays a big part!

But since i'm designing and racing i'll be stacking the odds as much in my favour as i can. ie there might be secttions you have to jump over or take the long way round!!! goto overcome those pesky buggies and there upwind ability somehow! hhehehehehe

That damn perrin with his magic hands will probably still be me tho!!!!

soft sand, hard sand, drift wood and boulders are almost guranteed!!!

Just how many goats have you gone through in your Kite buggy Life? It must be expensive

Re: Naki Nutbuster Buggy and board race 29, 30 Jan 1 year, 5 months ago #25897

Hey Plummet do you know anyone with a radar gun? Then we could have an amazing game of restaurant parking.

You guys need to start practicing. The deal is you ride along fast with your kite on your right. Then you do a 180 slide and stop. Its a 180 not just a 90. You start off facing one way with your kite on your right and finish stationary facing the other way with your kite to your left

The trick is to stop in a parking space not much bigger than your buggy. If you go forward or back of the space you have hit the other cars, if you go too deep you have mounted the curb.

We mark out a parking space and draw 1/2 a target around it. If you get into the space without touching any lines you get 0 points. Every line on the the target you touch gives you penalty points. The aim is a 0 score.

Now there are no points for jumping or 720's. Its simply a matter of parking with a 190 slide from speed.

Speed is the key. If you are going slow you will get a red flag and the next rider starts their run.

I like plummets idea for a jumping comp where you jump into a target with penalties and bonus points for style and trickery.

Anyway. We ran this at Fitzroy in 98 and it was really cool. Lots of crashes, some outstanding runs and I was surprised how Perrin and Brett could park it on the spot from real speed.

A radar gun would be good. The ultimate game would use your speed at a defined mark as your primary score and penalties for touching the lines on the target.

Next time you are at the beach. Mark a box, put up a stick or something so you can see it from afar and slide into it. Kite starts off on your right and when you are finished it is on your left.

You can go an catch yourself a free goat at tewera forrest mrfy if your finding wellington goats a tad expensive! deano. leave your virginal goat alone. i'll boil up some baked beans in my car as a sacrifice instead!

Sory charlie no radar guns here. but i geuss most guys have a gps that could be used to verify speed.

since i don't have backwards on my board i may have to judge the resturant parking. So that means charlie you may have to step up and show us hopw its done!!!

ther'l be bonus points for any obe's or ire's... hahhhahhhahhha

Re: Naki Nutbuster Buggy and board race 29, 30 Jan 1 year, 5 months ago #25899

For you its start off heelside finish toeside.

Re: Naki Nutbuster Buggy and board race 29, 30 Jan 1 year, 5 months ago #25900

Remember it is a frontside/forehand 180. If it was backside you would whack the car on the way into the park.

charlie man, you sound like a german (sorry germans) and your forgetting the beer factor.

allow me to explane.

all things related to showing off a skill must have boundries, or it would all just be freestyle and almost impossible to judge..
and so, with resteraunt parking, our primary goal is to fit into the box squarley from pace....(very german) but rules are rules and the only way to judge continuity..

however, i think the awsome factor must be allowed a place in this contest...so i suggest a slightly more relaxed adjudicaional aproach where by one can approach the parking lot (at pace as pre, requosite) but get a bit funky on your buggys ass and chuck it up some allowing the beer giggle factor to adjublicate the points.

for example.

kite buggy starts....straightlinestraightline ooooooOOOOH bigslide roundeyround STOP.

BORING.

well, not really boring but not as good as

skullabeer, kitebuggy starts, woooHOHHOOOOOOO big kiteloops, massive unintentional backwards drift to almost highside but get it back and haul a huge 360 frontside by mistake into te parkinglot to raputuas applause.

thats my bag.

Re: Naki Nutbuster Buggy and board race 29, 30 Jan 1 year, 5 months ago #25909

Thats what happens anyway.

Its a simple game with a basic goal. The execution is often hilarious. Last time we did it Tall Matt crashed every single run but kept coming back for more. All that business of getting caught with too much power behind your head, kite loops at the wrong time, unintended 360's, bad bad backwards highsides. It all happened and we scored everyone who started fast and didn't mount the curb.

We have to have an aim and it is to do a frontside 180 into the box. Whatever happens along the way. If you start fast and end up backwards stopped in the box you will get scored.

Get practicing Al. You can win this with any kite.

Hey Plummet, are you gonna send us a catalogue of the Nutbuster branded merchandising that will be available at your event(T shirts, coasters, beanies). You know I looking for a T shirt that says "I went to New Plymouth and all I got was my Nuts Busted"

That sort of thing... or is going to be one of those lame events where all I will come back with, is a boulder imbedded in my forehead?

Actually complimentary replica boulders with the nutbuster logo on then will make me happy.....

unfortnuatlt this ain't red bull sponsered event with painted chicks and personallised T shirts.

Its a bunch of dudes riding buggies and maybe 2 or 3 boards. At best you get a dude with a clip board counting laps. maybe i'll up the tech level to black board and chalk event callender.

But there might be some trophys (which will probably be drift wood cut into sections on my drop saw!) for things like best crash, best brown eye, craziest unitentional trick so forth and so on!
