It has a bad arse de-lamination crack running through it!

Well i suppose it lasted the better part ofa 2 year test to discruction reigime!...

Its fair to say that the wider axle and the granny tyres put an enormous load on those little trucks. So full credit to the truck.

So time to laminate up carbon housing mark 2. Should be all rearing to go by the moose. oh yeah.

Such a shame... though you'll take just a little time to make them this time round. Any photos of the failure? My bet is on the fillet between the mount plate and the hub for the elastomer.

Nearly ready to cast the elastomer on my trucks and I've sourced some acetal to make the guide plates from. Mine won't be ready for the moose though.

yep. thats the spot of greatest load and torsional twisting.

Not a shame really. just an opportunity for improvements on lay up no's 2.

The key reason for failer is that i layed this up in 3 separate lots. the initial layup was a geuss then i added more re-inforecment and then more again. also i added the 100mm wider axle which greatly increased the leverage ratio.

Anyway the de-lamination is between the mechanical bond between the separate layups.

This time it will be a single lay up and thus a chemical bond between all layers. Also there's be more carbon. I'm also considering installing some super duplex tube in that fillet to sandwich the carbon apart further for greater torsional stiffness..... haven't made the call on that yet.

all carbon or 2507 rib?.... hmmm.

The Genesis trucks cracked there too. I'd go all carbon and go with a bigger fillet(i.e.bigger core) Maybe go wider hub for the granny axle i.e. more supported
area rather than harder elastomer and thus also bigger flange/fillet joint to support it. May have to increase the diameter a little for a wider hube to get the same amount of movement in the hub. Still going to use the PVC tube core/former?

Still working on the Quadrilution style trucks for my cruiser. But I'm going nowhere fast till I've made a deck first.

the pvc core didn't fail so thats staying in there.

i would go wider but that requires more engineering that i don't have time for right before the moose.

so it will be increased fillet and single layup.

phase three will be carbon/bamboo board with intergrated truck housing. ie laminated into the deck not bolted on. that will be wider. but that requires a lot more thinking.

both new trucks out of the mold, sanded, and ready for a cosmetic layer of carbon. well as cosmetic as you can get with 400g, uni! hehe.

new urethane 90 a is poured. on target for a saturday test.

with the 80 duro i had to run preload which screwed the bushings after a while. i'm hoping the 90 wont need any preload and i'll get a longer life from the bushings.

new shiny housings. nothing better than looking a shiny carbon first thing in the morning.

fresh new urethane pour also.

Technical specs.

part weight has increased to 220 grm from the original 180gm. So more carbon baby!

this time it was a complete uni layup without the double bias. with some uni stringers layed on angles in the fillet for extra torsonal stiffness. the housing sports between 18 and 22 layers of 400gm uni with more in the fillet for stupid strength.

Single lay up for full chemical bond. i think i'll have to run these over with a very heavy roller to wreck these bad boys.

New sloted end caps made tonight and testing tomorrow. ooooh yeah!.....

Looks nice and chunky. Good practise for the next one-piece board+truck design.

I’d be interested in your experience with the 90duro. Going stronger with the housing is more important now that you’ve gone 90duro in your setup too since the housing supports more direct load and the elastomer doesn’t buffer it. I was going to go for more volume rubber rather than harder to get the balance right.

ultimatley your right more volume is whats required. i didn't have time to re-engineer my moulds. buy longer bolts.... bigger end cap boots....aaaghggg. Also if you go wider then you also need have a bigger id bore to get the same turnability. it is very dependant on wheel size and axle width and speed that you might want to go.

i will find out tomorrow. if 90 doesn't work then there will be some furious worrying between now and the moose.

well the monster board rides again. with new carbon housings, new 90duro elastomers and new trampa bindings.

P1070504.jpg

initial test is good except wind was 5-10 knot max so not much high speed to be had.

i'm on the fence regarding the new bindings tho. they seem stiffer and less comfortable than the old ones.... maybe they need to bedding in?

hmmm. more comfortable but close to breaking or new but less comfy? me thinks for the 24hr i'll have to revert to the old and change em out if they brake.

f1 or f3 bindings cant remember which, butch will have some ideas on the best ones too...

just bring both and use the old ones , run in the others another day.

i think the forcast is too soon to call for the 24 hour, we need to look at it again on monday but make a call on Wednesday, i have never seen the long range work out if its more than 4 days out....

i refuse to comment on the weather, we should all stop talking about it, it knows you know!!

you board looks awsome plummet, loving thoes choggy fat tyres, thoes spacers worked out well..
bindings are the bond between man and machine dude, you have to love them...i put my old binding on my new buggy because they are my old bindings and there awsome...it will be a huge day of sadness when they break..

well 90 duro is too hard for my slow beach when you need to dodge rocks / drift wook.

it will probably be bang on for high speed hard mooseland.

we will see.

80 was too soft. i wanted 85 but they didn't have it.

usually i find the elastomer loosen over time. so by the end of the 24 they might be band on! they will be sweet for the hard as its stable indeed. the soft may require softer elastomer set up. i have drilled 90 duro spares and 80 duro so i may have to make adjustments on the fly if need be.
