It drives me absolutely insane when a footstrap comes loose while I am sailing.

I have to sail back to the beach with one foot strapped in and the other footstrap dangling about, which I find awkward as hell. Then dropping the kite and running to the car and back to tighten the screw.

Huge waste of time when I could be sailing. I don't want to use loctite, because it is a bastard to get the screw out when I want it out and softset loctite will still work loose anyway.

Who know where I can find a short stainless steel screw driver which I can keep in my harness pocket, so that when the occasion arrives, I can do a quick tighten up out on the water?

hey dude
cant help you with the screwdriver, but you should check out the north footpads. gurantee they will never come loose. i did mine up when i got my board in october last year and have not had to tighten them up since. they have a real good groove system on the screws and foot beds, that lock into each other when you do them up.
i get to kite every day that its windy so they have had heaps of chance to wiggle loose, but it hasnt happend!!!!
check them out mate, and it wont be a problem you think about anymore

for stainless steel screw-drivers (and any other boat/seatools) try your local boat shop. you could cut one down. i swapped some off my bolts for "cap screws" so i can use an allen key. cheap and easy to carry. ok so it was a snowboard but works the same.

One thing I do to make sure this does not happen often(have not had it happen for years) is make sure have the right "bit/driver head" for the screw head. You can't get decent torque out of incompatible screw heads/ bits. They all look the same but there are 2 different formats of cross head and about 6 sizes in each! If you get the right one with the right one (and a FAT handled driver) it makes a world of difference. Allen key screws are cool but no one ever has an allen key when u need one most at the beach one time. Use high quality 316 grade stainless screws.

Anzor in auckland - but they have a mimimum spend - there is somewhere else near Wairau park that does not - look up stainless fasteners...
