TOPIC: Love that axle

Love that axle 1 year, 8 months ago #24849

I finally got out with my new Composite axle on the back. I have had it in the house nearly 3 weeks. I had it on the buggy last weekend but I was hiding from the weather with a raging cold and then yesterday I didn't quite get there. Today it finally happened and wow it was a great. Not just the axle but the ride and the wind and the sand and I got to beat on some blokarters. Fathers day is a fine tradition but even better when you get a great ride in.

Back to the axle. Its not 50 times better and I would hate to quantify it but it is simply better than my old hard axle. I spent a lot of today running over hoof prints and a bit of time on corrugations. My teeth did not get rattled in their sockets and It did not step out so much. On a few of the good runs it felt like I was drifting/floating but I wasn't because I was going forward not sideways.
I have a feeling there is no going back now.

next comes the leading lynn front end, as long as the factory didnt drop down a crack in the earth on friday. Wait till you use the axle at the moose !! im probably the only person to have started with front suspension and then added rear

I tried to buy the one Craig had on the ultralight at the Blue balls last year. He wouldn't sell it as they only had one.

I quite like the old trailing links. Might be one somewhere in a shed.

i have 2 little foot links , one big foot link , one super kenda foot link and one for the zzr 250 rims underway with pete for super high speed, a bit experimental that one. I do have some components set aside for keen folks who want to make their own and the plans for the carkeek leading link variant , eugene is making some nice mounts that are a fraction of the cost of the rubber ones. if your keen on doing some filing , i recon we can set up a front end . I would think a big foot front would be best as you can space it for little foot as well . if you run bigfoots it will inc ground clearance which is perfect . i have almost all raw materials except mounts and 2.0mm wall 25mm diameter tube. email me pipe bending and welding is the snag but not impossible to overcome given enough time

Thats a mighty fine selection of front ends you have there. And spare bits lying around. Thats quite impressive.
