Has anybody buggyed on the Kokota sandspit by Paua in the Far North?? I was having a look around the area on Google Earth and found this 3km wide by 3km long pure white sandspit . There is a picture of the sandspit looking from Paua, it looks awesome.

we got close on the last 90mile mission.....but never made it.its been one of my dream buggy places since the aformentioned google earth, iv been eying it up aswell.

what i know so far....its hard to access..you cant just drive on to it.
it could be a bird colony.

we wanted to go on the 90mile but the giant sand dunes on the west coast won.

havnt put a huge amount of effort into finding out more but its hard when your not talking to local people, tourist information dosnt really know what kitebuggying is so when you ask anything they tend to say no.

does indeed sound like a road trip....again

I will do a bit more investigating from up here. I think boat access would be required.

i thought we discovered that is was private land and random punters couldn't access the dunes without permission. thats why we didn't get there.

Rarawa beach was cool. squeeky!

it does look very cool. and the silica sand is just strange. also looks like a primo spot for some flat water kitesurfing.

alas i wont be back up that far for a LONG time.

You could landboard the wet sand but not the dune sand. super small granuals and slippery.

here's pick or rarawa beach which is at tne bottom end of the beach. problem is theres a outcrop in the way that stops you kiting up to the dunes.

PS you need your sunnies its super white and super bright.

Sorry 50psi. I'm out for any more road trips this year. bar maybe the moose rage permitting.

But i can't complain as this year has been epic and well exceeds my alotted fun factor allowance.

Hey All.

I grew up in the Far North and this Sandspit is not the easiest place to access If you guys have your hearts absolutely set on it I can try and get some numbers for ya, I still know alot of people up there.

If you DO go to the far north and want a few suggestions I'd love to suggest the following:

90 Mile beach (landboarding, buggying), but you all knew that. Nuff said.

Tokerau beach (landboarding, buggying, kiteboarding). Heading south there is fewer and fewer people, a little softer and not as wide as 90 mile but good alternative. VERY EASY ACCESS.

Rangiputa Inlet (kiteboarding), right near Tokerau on the Karikari Peninsula. Easy access.

Tuna Tuna Beach (landboarding, buggying), This place is the BUSINESS!!! But bring your 4WD cause there is no other way to get there. Either drive round the reef from Shipwreck Bay of take the Crunchy Trail over the back (round the reef is easier, Crunchy is funner). There are long stretches of hard pack, nice small and large dunes, some harder some softer and HEAPS of space. A few motorbikes and hoons but otherwise unpopulated (due to access).

Hope this is of some help Will add more when I think of them.

All the best places are hard to access. That place looks epic. Im keen for a mission up there. Buggy, & Dune Landboarding (may have found the right tyre/rim combo) .

sweet i'm keen to see that tyre rim combo. if it works i'll make a specialist dune deck too. I need to hit those dune lips on the landboard.
