TOPIC: Raglan report

Raglan report 2 years, 4 months ago #22774

Hey Folks.

Well there has been lots of interest about this race Jan 10. A team are coming from the south. The Auckland bunch are coming, maybe one Taranaki and Al has run away in fear.
The beach is nothing like the expanse of sand we had for the blue balls. Its got lots of rocks, oodles of wet moguls, a big soft sand shelf and lots of water. There is sand building up closer to the land and it is coming from the low tide zone. Some would say its F@&Ked, personally I like it. Mike hates it. It should make for some interesting racing. There is lots of soft sand so tyre choice may be crucial. Bring everything. The rangers and locals are moaning about people going in the dunes and getting to close to the surf patrol area.
BE RESPONSIBLE. IF YOU GET ME BANNED FROM MY BEACH I WILL NOT BE HAPPY.

Also Saturday if there is a southerly kind of wind Mike might set up a trip to the north side of the Harbour. I know we say this every time but Its Mikes idea and he talked to the boat guy so don't ask me about it. If it happens it will be $5.00 a head for a return trip. There is a big ugly sand dune at the north end of the beach by Mussell rock.

See you Jan 10. Be responsible there are lots of kids around.

soft spots, sand banks massive puddles. sounds like Fitzroy beach in NP. I'll be right in my element.!!! set that course up so theres some massive puddles in the way. that way i can jump them and the buggiers will have to go around.... unless of course they man up and jump them too!

If its a southerly will the race be in the dune? or on the flat..

As flat as it can be. Charging the moguls will be optional.

I am going to be in Raglan kitesurfing on the weekend of the 10th. I have a wedding there so if anyone is looking for a ride from wellington or some where along the way then I have room. Will probably leave on the Thursday night and possibly stop where alond the way depending on weather.

i'll be hooning up for a day mission. Yaker if you see a dude belting around on a landboard (probably the only one) with massive grey wheels thats me. cruise over for a chat. I'll be racing the buggiers when the race is on but before and after that i'll be skidding around. maybe even splashing around in the ocean with the new kitesurf kit!

dang now i dont know what buggy to bring apart from peters , for him

soon it will be a trailer with all of them perhaps, then free up garage space ?!?

imagine arriving and not twisting a single bolt, cap screw or nut, wow !

If al were here he would remind me a van can do that too

come back Al , all is forgiven, all those time you beat me with sub standard bearings and shallow groove wheels... hmm ok stay in the UK a bit longer.. hahaha.

ah... thats what i'll be doing!

why don't you flag the rav and arrive in the same manner you did at the blue balls. Tow truck! (thats by far the best arrival i have seen to an event yet!) you could have all buggies just lined up on the deck.

what you also need is a pit crew. some one to tighten bolts adjust suspension, tyre pressures, while you the highly strung racer psych's yourself for the impending race.

Maybe you need to turn up 2-3 days early with all your gear and test comprehensively o you can select the appropriate equipment.....

hehe i'm just teasing.

Hehe... moosetruck doesn't even fit a standard trailer. Had to have mine and Jimmy22's XXCougar mix sitting on their sides in the Shell caged trailer coming back from BBBB09.

Some of us have been marveling at some of those nicely closed trailers like you sometimes see at go-cart races etc. for years. Even the Shell furniture trailers would be a treat though i'd make it just half a meter lower for a bit better road performance behind the station wagon.

Like a walk in wardrobe for kiting. Pop top or a gazebo on the roof of it, couple of bean bags, bbq, mains inverter, compressor, sounds, water tank and pressure pump. That would be the fruit.

WOOOOOO HOOOOO happy new year kite people.....but allas, time are bad for a lonesome kite buggier.

i sit here tapping away in utter fustration having not flown anything for 2 weeks with 3 more to go!! i am slowly going crazy,i need to go to the beach..its always dark and damp and everythings coverd in frost..
i have had to endure looking at rolling snowcoverd fields and plesant 10knot breeses and try to ignore my perfectly good snowboard....the horrors
the only resolution is that trying to go kiting in zero temperatures probbably wouldnt be that plesant anyway, and there are no beaches in the lakeditrict..
i will be back in full force when i return, got my forks fixed, got a new n-gen ...straightend up my buggy and jimmy, watchout coz im gonna change the bearings on my freshley grooved racing wheels wooohooooo
hopefully will have enough money to fix the van and will back on the drift in no time, if i can remember how to fly!!!
hope you guys have an awsome awsome race, im very sad i cant be their... but i will endevour to create a race when i return.
watch out for that guy with the other 3.5 N-gen! i heard they go pretty quick
