TOPIC: Peter Lynn sponsored Outlaw Racing. Raglan Jan 10

Peter Lynn sponsored Outlaw Racing. Raglan Jan 10 2 years, 5 months ago #22634

At 1.30pm on Sun Jan 10 there will be a race with a prize on Ngaranui Beach Raglan. It will be a 20-25 km enduro unless conditions expressly prohibit this. Hopefully we will have some impromptu short course racing on the same day. This is open to Kite buggies and land boards. Starboard rules apply.

The deal is.

1: Peter Lynn kites of Ashburton have sponsored this event by providing a 5mtr Pepper complete with lines and handles for a prize. This is an ex demo kite in excellent condition. It has a value of several hundred dollars.

2:The feature race will take place in any condition other than a complete lack of wind or a state of emergency. At 1.30 the flag drops. There will be multiple laps of a 1-2.5km course. Whoever finishes the course first wins the pepper. Rain, hail or snow 1 flyer or 10. A competitors meeting will be held at 1pm.

3:This is outlaw racing. No sanctioning body. No points. Charlie is the marshal.

4:The format of the race may be changed to suit the conditions of the day.

5:Raglan is a popular tourist destination. There is a chance the beach will have many people on it. Due care and consideration must be shown. Riding dangerously in the presence of picnickers and pedestrians will not be tolerated.

Spread the word. Race hard. Don't use geography as an excuse.

HAHAH DARTH PLUMBLANDER thats the best nick name yet. maybe i should change my forum name.

the truth is up against the best nz buggeries i'm screwed. particularily if theres alot of upwind tack which there is likley to be on at raglan.

however that wont stop me trying... and with that distance alot could happen.... tortice and hair etc... how ever i will rain a parade of terror on the brutis. hehehe. i recond mr boar will find it hard to do 25km without a death run into driftwood...

i think 25k is a perfect distance for team brutal and the boar, give him plenty of time to stop

Ill be looking fwd to watching you corner on the land board Dave, but you certainly have the pace for the straights.

Eugene has the 12m yak GT now , but i have the handles and lines Muhahaha.
Man that kite is scary large , even scarier if its 3 knots on race day. i don't think my 6m Yak on 25m lines will cut it somehow. the Reactor 10m for sale at kite works could be the answer.... for Rexton. Rexton could have won that last race at the moose too, he was faster than Perrin and Craig. It was awesome to watch Perrin and Craig go wheel to wheel for 5 ? further laps ....

Im hoping for 20 knots, the 3.4m yak is back and ready to fly first to the top mark , twist into knots , get re-set, and then pass almost everyone to the second mark before collapsing again gotta love a missile with no guidance system , i gotta work on that
home made buggies, OZONE Yakuzza's , Yak Gts, Methods
Making buggies 50% flying 50%

I can zing round flags at similar pace as the buggies. process is slightly different. i punch into a powerslide have the kite low in the window and do an upturn. I can control the amount of wang and slide on the upturn. doing a down turn on the manta provides too much down wind wang and i loose too much ground.

ideal wind speeds for me 18knots on the manta and 25ish on the 6 access.

theres a new kite winging its way into my quiver too. 11m ozone edge sle(for kitesurfing). Being an high aspect sle it should provide me with some extra bottom end should the wind be sub 15knots.

amusingly i did 25km today in a session.
max 51kph
time 54 mins
ave 28kph.

wind was on,cross, on moving to cross on by the end. about 16knots fading to 12ish.

average speed would have been higher if i didn't get sidetracked jumping a rock and accompaning rock pool.

He would have been if he had kept his kite in the sky. Lets hope we don't see a repeat of such a fundamental error as trying to fly your kite on the ground. Thats right it wasn't the ground he landed it on Mike.

Plummet. Can't wait to see you in action against the 3 wheelers. Should be interesting to see the mixed disciplines. I hope you can pick one or 2 off. When you passed me at the moose the other year I died inside for a minute.

After you left with the handles yesterday I took it out again and rolled the 8m Ace over the top of it. Same depth through the middle but almost 2/3'rds more wingspan due to the taper in the tips... gi'freakin'ormous! Can't imagine what the 17m is like.
