Hi guys,

I registered here a little while back, but never introduced myself. I'm Will, I make Sugar Boards, www.sugarboards.co.nz . A few summers ago I really got into kiteboarding and landkiting. I have made a few proto's and here's my latest creation.

Please check out this link here for photo's and info : www.sugarboards.co.nz/2009/10/23/v2-0-landboard/

Welcome to the forum master craftsman Will.

thats a nice looking deck and some nice longboards. very sugary indeed.

i recognise some of the sections on your longboard vid. ground half my arse off on the luge track in auckland 6 months back.

Amusingly you are the second Will to make longboards/landboards (or maybe the first i'm not sure who came first) Will (blizzard)from Pulse longboards made the first full nz carbon landboard a year back.

I'm also a builder of longboards/landboards. Not for sale mind you just for my own amusement.

Thank you plummet.

The luge track is very nice. I wish I could get up there more often to skate. I'm based in the Bay of Plenty.

I'm familiar with your own boards. Very nice I must say. The latest trucks of yours I saw on the 'fish' a while ago were very cool.

I have been building boards for a good 4 years now. I have seen Pulse's (Will's) boards, but haven't seen much of them lately.... The Carbon landboard was impressive.

Cheers,
Will

Will, Im outright impressed by that creation! Looks like a beauty and i would be more than happy to ride that deck..

What would did you use to make it as those are some very nice kick bends... The one problem i was having when looking at building mine...

Again totally impressed.. would love to know just a wee bit more info..

Thanks very much guys.

These decks will quite possibly be on sale here in NZ and possibly in Oz, soon.
I have used Gaboon ply. All vacuum laminated. Kick angle is 35*. 25mm camber.

The Texalium also comes in Blue and Gold. So you may see some different colours!

I forgot to weight the deck before sticking all the gear on. I'll go weight it tonight and find the total weight for you. The deck came out very light, for a non-foam core. I'm very happy with the weight it came out as.

I'll have more details up on the site soon.

sub 2kg is good.
you also want to look for a nice horizontal flex down the board while retaining torsional stiffness.

whats the deck length or have you told us this?

post them on forum.kitecrowd.com/
if you can crack the uk market then you stand the chance to sell hundreds of decks.

i must say they will be more interested in carbon decks or carbon/ply than glass/ply and 15 deg kick short freestyle decks for skate trucks... but your deck is damn sexy and different and that will be enough for quite a few punters.

charge forth and concur with your creation.

pss are you a kiter yourself? if not better buy yourself a kite and start..... watch out tho it will take over from your longboarding.....

I suspect it is a bit under 2kg.
The deck is very torsionally stiff. That's something that I prioritize in all my decks.

Tip to tip is 970mm. Wheelbase 960mm.

Complete is about 6kg. This was only on a shitty set of bathroom scales though...

Thanks for the input. I didn't realize that the freestyle boards with the skate style trucks were more popular. The 15* angle deck would make things alot easier. When I get the time I will post up on the link you suggested.

Yes, I am a kiter my self. Both on land and water. I'm really looking forward to the nice summer sea breezes of endless runs...

What thickness is the gaboon your using?? Im impressed if you are getting 35* kicks into 3mm gaboon... thats quite a feat..

And yeah the kiters are all keen on the short 15* kick decks as they are lighter and a bit better for freestyle... But what you have created will be a dream to ride..

Yeah 3mm.
I certainly will consider making a more freestyle orientated board next.
