all i know is its usually on fathers day when ever that is.

if your real keen you can find a number of a guys that usually organises it and ring him on one of those old pages.

ps i'm also keen. not that often you get a chance to fang a runway.

yes it is.

tho its a public single line kite day. power kiters can turn up and fly in a designated area. so... you may not get the whole runway to zip along on. also the runway will be design to point head on into the prevailing wind. so chances are yourl be zipping along the runway sideways. mind you i'd expect a decent amount of smooth grass either side of the runn way.

ps fathers day is 6th of sept.

Let me know when this do is on if you find out. Ill be there with bells on.
Ive had a few nasty experiences with landboards and runways but thats another story. Problem is you cant scrub off speed and have to instead launch yourself into the stratosphere to avoid eating gravel. Can be fun but with a Quad strapped to ya feet can be a bit heavy.

See yas there

Went last year, no wind, they allow you about 400 m of taxiway, the wind we did get was from the prevailing direction which means you are not going to get to use all the taxiway. The verges are pretty flat so you can get a bit of speed up to do some jumping. Its mostly buggiers that come to the day and they are a friendly bunch.
Yes, it is definitely on Fathers day.
Cheers

Hey Guys,

I work at ohakea and can confirm that it is on the 6th of Sept, Fathers Day. I think it's gold coin entry or some such.

More details when they come to hand.

1030 Hrs. $2 on the gate that goes toward the local lions foundation I think. I'm gonna work on ops to let us have some more runway this year aswell.

No buildings to stuff you up so it should work in any direction, depends on how much room they give us.

southerly might be a good direction for ohakea. it means we could punch the length of the runway if they let us.

maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=q&source=s_...0dpyR0Cg&split=0

lets see... i need to see a forecast of +10 knots to make the trip worth while.

Hey guys,
It looks like this will be the area they will allow us to have, which is about 700m of the north/south runway and about 500 of the east/west taxiway.

Unfortunately they would not clear us to cross the main runway at this stage.

Same area as last year, looks like the same weather as last year to... sod all wind!!!! According to Metvuw synoptic forecast charts there will be a big high centred right over Cook Straight which normally means...... sod all wind!!!. Lets hope it changes by then.

well yeah, the ski field was on hold with to munch wind
and ohakea had none, 1 to gusting 4! knots!!
had 4 buggys from the bay, 2? from foxton and 1 from ohakune plus boards etc.
we sat around and got the odd kite up 4 a minute, so not so good.
but great venue and a must be back next year, as sounds like the wind is normaly better than this.
