As Northernal has mentioned in another thread, there be a new race concept afoot for The Moose, still only a concept at this stage until we get a mostly positive, suppoprtive, enthusiastical type responce from those interested, and if enough want to take part then maybe I'll even have to get some flags made up.
The idea came to us after a brilliant day with a pharnomanal souwester in mooseland the otherweekend (Can be viewed via the Murawai thread under "Solstice Moose")
Anyway with that wind we had major fun making our way overdune, down sandslides, through cuts and along pans to the well then had a tacking race all the way back up the beach to the moose, took around an hour to complete, so we thought if we put certian marks,ie flag on a 2m fiberglass rod at strategic places that you had to round then we could get a race going that envolved all aspects of race bugging, eg upwind, down wind, hardbeach, softsand, technical tracking, sandcliff drops etc, all in one race, hence the amalgamation of Moose and enduro for the name MooDuro
Oh, I would suggest Bigfoots as pictured on Northernal's SR71 styled Vmax and my retro reinforced Vmax
So I guess now its wait and see what your responce's are

MooDuro
Sounds epic to me, What do you think?

i need to make the moose board so i can compete and kick your arses.

ps gps is probably the best way to track results for such and event. everyone should have a plotable gps and simply download the results at the end of the day.

AWESOME
We will need camera persons
number of laps or hrs
and would that be a count down start or running start,
maybe a uni start- have to eat a cold pie and drink a jug to start

i think maybe a technical dune run and a race on the flat stuff , but thats just me

when the racing blinkers go on an you have a 90foot drop in your race track we are talking nitro circus stuff, going big and getting hurt alot except if your name is Travis

nah pur the 90 footer in it will sort the men from the boys. you might aswell race on the hard low tide if its flat.

ps big floaty kites might be the call. atleast if you find yourself 20foot high you will float to earth nicely.

ps it can be the tortice and hair scenario. if you charge off every lip at 100 miles per hour chances are you will crash and brake yourself and or your equipment. when racing long distance its not the nut cases that win. its the most consistant.

What about GPS waypoints and a souvenir at the marker.

..or just a good old endurance race. Right to the top and back. Wind is just a little fickle else we could do a LeMans' for the most km's for a given time.

Maybe some of the kitecross style could be used, nail the 90ftr or go the long way around and start at high tide on a short technical track in the dunes and when the tide drops you can have the option of running a longer track on the flat(longer track same amount of laps),take a gamble on wind/race strategy ftw

The way I see it weather you use the hard beach or go dune styles, how you get to the mark is up to you, just round it and then on to the next one, and if its at the bottom of a ninety foot sand edge then its up to the pilot whether they arrive land styles or not , was thinkin about twelve to twenty marks in all and maybe a three-four hour race, most correctly driven lapps wins (ie rounding the marks in the right order), and maybe helmets and gloves in the buggy, kite at idle, and a 10metre dash to the buggy to start the race, just a thought

the first to do 500 click wins and gets the world record
I would like to have a go at this anyway in the next two months

wowa the moo500. i think you need daylight savings for that mad event. do the maths. If you can average 50kph none stop thats 10hours. can you do 60-70kph in the dunes? i doubt it.

to put it in pespective thats more that 10 nukings of muruwai non stop.

that said i'll attempt such madness. i'll have absolutly no show at doing 500 but i'll be keen to see what i can crack in a day. maybe 200km.

its not impossible , but the beach only faces one way so it needs to be a consistent 20 kts and there are only 8+ hours of usable tide in 12 hours for nuking potential. beating any record by "Fast Arie" is a difficult task. The idea sounds good to me though a really worthy concept.

looks like i need to make a spare tyre mount ?!

and with 20 knots SW ,it's in the bag .and I'll sleep like a baby, after a ale or two

why stop at 500? set some lights up and keep going. theres no reason why you can't do a solo 24 hour. don't just better the record by a few km polverise it by doubling the record.

camel back moro bars... theres no reason why you can't be belting dwon the beach flying with 1 hand while eating with the other. hehe just need to sort the bodily functions while riding.

Hmmm, a cathada in a buggy Dooable!..., but the No2 shute would require some technicle sewing, and the dunes might get just a little abrasive

There's another record in the waiting aye plummet, speed duneing on fixed axles, ha, allredy ben practicing on over power moose winds (need kidney belt though), its bouncy fun
