After 5 kites, 2 buggys I said enough was enough! I was going to get one more thing being a mountainboard but heres where it all goes wrong......

While working in waihi today (sightseeing the little town more than work as you do?) I thought that while I was there I will check out the bike shop as its my girls six birthday coming up so walked into the shop and lo and behold the bikes were shiny and glittering, What more could I ask for to get her.
Then just before signing the deal off I spotted something I had only seen on you tube and it was Blue! what a shit colour but I just had to have a look!........really long story short....so on the way home thinking Damn I still need a mountainboard!!! lol

anyone tried one of these little puppys?

your in for a treat mate, i got into kiting on one of thoes things.
tought me how to fly a kite properly ill tell you that.
i hated it, hardest thing i ever learned....massive MASSIVE reward when you finaly crack it an start carvin it up...probably most fun on a small (overpowerd is hard work) 2liner with a bar an waist harness, flying one handed is awsome on this thing but i learned with 4liner and strop/pulley/harness.
did i mention fast....
no brakes...
huge turning circle....
 sorry
i modified mine quite alot, put a calf brake on and a grabbar to hold onto up the front till i got it up to speed ,and some footstraps.
your gonna have to post a vid of how you ride this thing, if it goes anything like my saga youl keep us entertained for weeks.

Those are the craziest contraptions. Very stable downhill riding especially on our tussocky, sheep terraced hills. They will outslalom anything as long as it's on firm ground. However more idiosyncrasies than would make your kiteboarding learning experience an otherwise simple and pleasurable one.

www.dirtboard.co.nz/ i don't know if you knew it was there, but next time your up there check it out, viv can give you a few differant boards to try out i'm sure. good track bx for the dirtsurfer as well.

from what i know of dirtsurfers i would go for a calf break and footstraps, but then i've never ridden one with a kite. they are hellafun tho. you can get faster on that than any other stand on board/contraption. as for kiting...if you can ride with that, you can ride with anything.

have fun

Well thats cool and only 30 minutes away so ill keep that one in mind thank you!, I've managed to get this going and already looking for bigger hills as its suprisingly easy to get the hang of it, in saying that I managed about 20 mtrs before coming a gutsa with the kite attached today but silly really to expect otherwise in 30+ knots learning but the time will come lol Footstraps are really needed so no jumping yet either.

Just with all the extreme sports out there, there are some lunatics that push the envelope just like these guys on their dirtsufers and once again making it look easy and me with the feeling of i want to try it.

If Anyone finds a dirtsurfer been used with a kite please post.

Those would be pretty easy to make as you could take a normal buggy like my cheap arse radsail and take the back axle off and have a single rear wheel attachment which would just slide/bolt into original pod rails and you could alternate between 2 or 3 wheels, Hmmmm now that would give me an excuse as to why I sit down all the time!! just done a google and heres exxactly what I mean...

Well I have an addiction I feel as I cant stop bolting stuff to the Dirtsurfer and I have bought another one this time with a calf break as pretty wicked trying to slide it to a sudden stop and face planting while trying to stay composed and looking cool at the same time lol.... Anyway Now have a windsurfing sail and its just wicked and I feel I may be stopped on the 30kph restricted beach very soon! wonder if I'll get spiked if theres a failing to stop in the semi high speed pursuit????

well i suggest you book yourself in on the 90mile beach road trip. your wont have any trouble with going too fast. quite the opposite will be the case you may find yourself not going fast enough to keep up!

Hey

i mainly kite surf, but on light wind days have been playing with the dirt surfer and the 10 manta.

Great fun on a 8 knt day on an empty beach. Wicked fast in bugger all wind.

gotta go slow on the turns though or you over run the kite.

Good to hear that im not the only one thats using them and now I have 3!!! 2xGP 20" and a flexi pro 20" and it makes all the difference when they have brakes lol, Just trying a few different things at the mo and so far attaching a windsurf sail makes for a passive cruise in the park where as kites pretty choppy so may need to try in lighter wind with the venom as the 2mtr just sucks the life out of the arms and run out of ground way to quick....still half the fun is trying all these while staying out of plaster.

if your in Tauranga give me a yell and if your keen go for a skid or go up to Summerhill Bike park if no wind and scream down the 20km of tracks

just thought id jump in and mention i own one of the Nz versions similar to the dirtsurfer.. its called a safari and works much the same. ive done a few rins with a kite along the beach and it works rather well with the only somewhat hard bit turning at the end of a stright run and then having to ride toeside all the way back!

Well when your passing through lets go for a spin! Going to do the Kaimai Ranges in a while (just a few to many cars at easter time) so you've got heaps of time to put a set of slicks on and join in... should be good for a go and so far I have four takers for the trip so should be a fun 4 minute run to the bottom and then the other side...

Well I'm up to four boards now with the addition of a gr model for the road runs a 16" flexi for squashing skateboarders on the ramps and a 20" flexi pro for the parks, forest tracks and the not so good Tauranga roads so all I need now is someone to come for a thrash so anyone keen??

Hi - I have 2 of them - one like your first pic (blue as well ) which I modified and GP 20" - don't use the blue one now.
Mainly use it with a kitewing - like it better than a sail.
This dude here is right into a kite + dirtsurfer www.howarths.eclipse.co.uk/mustbemad/
Have a look at his Gower Jump video. Cool.

Had a blast today with the 2mtr and the 16" flexi with a few non wanted aerials just to save the unwanted face plants as I'm still in hope of one day getting that call from Rachael Hunter...lol but was a bit gusty and had to steer round a lot of goal posts so short lived but fun anyway!! I had high hopes of the Kaimai run on Saturday heading up there but rain put paid to that one so still time to join up if anyones keen! I've had all the bearings on the GP replaced with brand spanky sealed ones but still seem to only be getting tops of 75kph but its definitely an easier roll with them it must be the hills are sinking...lol cant wait to find more.....
