tell me what is so great about grooved tyres?

more traction?
on hard or soft sand?

i've noticed i can get grooved granny tyres!

should i procure these for mighty grooved grip for the 90 mile?

tell us more! pic.?? i might need some to.

ok as i understand with car tires on sand;

the best type are big fat low pressure "balloon" tries
idealy what you need is the tire to "float" on the sand

low pressure make a bigger "foot print" to help the tire float

and putting a tread on the tire like off road mud tires breaks up the surface of the sand so the tire starts to sink a bit

so best tire has no or very little tread (crap in the wet on rd)

but since a kite pulls side ways, with no tread your going to slide more

some tread and that side ways pull should get you going forward faster

too munch tread and the tire grabs the ground (you go slower!?!)

why race cars/bikes have slicks!?!

SO! grooved tyres should be the best traction side ways, roll forward fastest, and not sink in the best . bigger is best on soft sand of course

I.E GROOVED GRANNY'S ROCK!!!! (maybe:roll:)

ps 12:30am drunk rant!! so might be all wrong/bull  LOL
conrad was here! when not ridein'
Pump to 50 P.S.I. for xtra speed!!
I NEED A FIX! A KITE FIX!!!

currently running non grooved grannies

check out here

www.mountainboarder.co.nz/viewtopic.php?t=1541

i'll get a set of the groovy grannies and see if they are better than the standard set!

they are 10"h x 3"w and fit on standard 4" rims. (not rock stars! they will snap crackle pop

grooves are great for sand, i had some on my old mbs board. you can hold more side force and control is better too, however if you jump it sticks the landing so you need to be on to it. psi is probably the most critical part of tyres on land boards to get the individual tyre to perform at its best.

with the buggy grooved BFs ;

wet sand; way more traction

soft dunes; front tyre only better steering

hard beach; very little advantage, but good for the turns

mags yes they will be good for the 90 mile! to heavy i suggest for standard jumping but better for high speed traction.

the grooves do sound good. more traction in wet would be ideal for me as my sand is almost always wet!

as long as theres not so much traction that it breaks my ankles. ouch

i was also right about the weekend being a good one for orewa, i did both days so none would be lonely, sunday was the best day by far, sustained 50s and top 59. bugger all people due to the bad weather so a perfect chance to open up the xx. Als ngen was a rocket ship, i needed my never used yak 4.0 to attack the jojo4.0 too but i was happy on the 3.8 reactor after i found the bridle snag i got another 5 kmph in the last hour.

magic kite i tell you.
you might be lucky plummet and your grannys will grip so well that youl only get overtaken slowly 8)

im not sure if 'whisling noise' really tells the whole story, fact is the kite is actually possessed by a squadron of angry banshies whoes soul is entirley given to upsetting the calming effect of kiting by going SCHWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA for the entire duration of my trip.
and it was only blowing 12knots. sure she goes fast, in a kind of, im going to make you pay for this, way.
dont think itl have a yak tho, need a blurr for that ..

grroved grannies are the way and the light. they hold maybe 20% more power than the non groves. so they will be here to stay. so far i see no disadvantage over the standard grannies.

yesturday i got one of the very few times a year that the wind comes direct onshore. well its was a very slight cross on. usually its about 45 degrees to the beach.

so i got to fang the grooved grannies the length of the beach 2km.
first time on the granies with any decent wind and direction and i had the gps.

wind was 16knots max maybe sitting around 12 knots petering off to 10 by the end. Beach was wheels sink in soggy with testicle sized rocks drift wood actual grannies mixed with the occasions hot chick walking a dog.

any way i was astounded how the gooves sliced through the sheets of water. with the standard tyres and the non grooved grannies the tyres can aqau plane at 40+kph and send you into scary not very controlled slides. these puppies just hold a line sheets of water or not.

so i dive the kite into the powerzone and pull up to speed and settle into a comfortable not too fast speed. i look at the gps and what the Faaark i'm doing 40kph. i'm riding over rocks and twigs and blazing through the water supper soggy sand.... that would never happen with the standard tyre.

any way it was only a short kite for 40mins 20km ave of 30kph with a max of 45.... not bad considering the beach conditions. i can't wait till i have the new carbon trucks and a hard as hell beach and 20 knots..... therel be some speeed.
