Was a pretty awesome wind today Rodrigo and i did the wiamak run with speeds up 52kmph and had a wee race with the blowkarts on the way back. No contest really. Tried out that PL buggy MKII thats been in the garage all winter and with the XR+ seat and the pool noodle padding its comfy as. Though for all that wind it was quiet on the land only me Rod,mas and someguys fighting with there Pepper II. Did they ever get going on those landboards?

well wasnt all a waste of diesel, the others were ripping it, did a good photo sesh with joe and mason, and bought a well nice board off of norwester. it's allways nice to go to the seaside. photos up later.

nice railey shot there Ray!

Was a cool little sesh today. I'm loving my new quiver... Just have to get the jumps dialed in a bit more. Then again, jumping an 8m in 15 knots is pretty silly, needs at least 20+ to shine I reckon....

Highlights of the day were knocking over a blokart and pulling some mad little 180 spins whilst ripping past them...

I hope Rodrigo has a speedy recovery. Just got a text from Craig... tiba and fiba are both broken above the ankle, and fiba is broken under the knee, both are spiral fractures... Not sure if surgery is required. Just goes to show that what we do is extremely dangerous, and things can go wrong in a split second. Let's just hope its the last injury we see this season...

Cheers, Will

No..... craig from PL.

And i think richard is the person to ask about how it happened but alledgdly there was a blo kart involved and yes its both bones. i think nathans description went something like "full floppy ankle"

Hope he recovers well. Its not a very nice thing to happen.

Ray: Nice photos dude. Like that one of Richard.

Well today was going all well and fine awesome wind had a good run from the surf club to the spit and back. Craig and i swapped kites and me craig and ridrigo headed down the beach towards the spit in south brighton again all was going fine i pulled level with Rodrigo on the downind side and we were 25m apart as his kite was right over my head but i was been dragged downwind, the 4.9m Reactor been to much to for me in that wind and i was nearly on the soft stuff when i notcied a log tried to avoid it but to late and i skidding the buggy sideways and hit it with my back wheel and over i went when i picked myself up and landed the kite a matter of 2 seconds later. I heard Rodrigo screaming his leg was broken and saw him i the middle of the beach, buggy one way, kite the other.

What had happened was Rodrigo saw me crash and tried to stop to see if i was alright and got flipped over on his right and he thinks the kite pulled him backover the buggy to his left and SNAP SNAP!!!! Two great guys cameover (kitesurfers) and one ran back to his house and phoned for the ambulance. We made him and comfy as possible until they arrived, they gave him some morphine and splitted his leg then we strechered him off the beach to the ambulance and off to hospital. I think he is staying in overnight and will see the specialist tomorrow the find out if he needs surgery.

No Blokart involved though ask Will about "Blowkart Rage"

Thanks for the Pics Ray its a good one of you as well.

Yeah that pic makes it look like i was doing a hundered, though it was only 20k's, low light and slow shutter speed gives great effects.

Oh man that sounds heavy. I hope Rodrigo recovers quickly....maybe we need to build him a trailer in the mean time behind one of the buggys so he can still get out there!

Looks like today is going to be good too...might head to the esturay again for another low tide super flat water speed/freestyle session !

What was going on with those blo-karts? saw them all parked up at South Beach not doing much, only a few actually sailing. Infact - why do people blo-kart? Sorry to hear about the snappage.!

Was a classic christchurch windsport day yesterday though - saw you guys out on the beach. I was like the only guy out on the water for ages, the low tide had created a super-flatwater channel between the beach and the outer sandbank, and just further out there were superb hollow fast peeling waves breaking right onto the bank, nearly cost me a fin or two more than once!- the most fun state the water has been in in the three years I have lived here, I can't believe everyone else goes estuary poo-dredging when it's like that!!!

Got some real cool shots from my kite-mounted cam, I'll post some up later.

Shaner:

Can I join the estuaryisforposers movement?

I'm out most days, but I normally head for North Beach, carpark is marginally closer to the beach there and launching area is fractionally nicer. I also saw a topless chick swimming there once...

I never use fins,

Hey shane those pics are awesome and you've got a great angle on the camera for those shots to and like the blog thats one cool coffee table you built.

Is the skycam a case of it take a pic every x secs until the memory card is full and then you keep the best ones?

Loving the wooden surfboard in the blog!

Yeha i switch between waves and esturay... i used to hate the esturay...but since i learnt some unhooked moves i just can't get enough of its flatness!

Zenon - sure can, it's a seriously good board for brighton wind swell, I normally kite just south of the pier, just flag me down if you see me out - orange(10) or blue(6) OR Rise. I'll probably blag a go on your Ion while your there .

Yeah the camera is set to shoot every 12s - I had over 500 shots to review on Sunday night! Getting the angle right was quite easy, just a couple of test flights to get the right size foam shims and we are away. I've got a friend who made a paraglider cam mount using magnets from old hard drives that would work for foils and PLs.

That hollow woody was a saga, 7 months in the making!

Yeah the flatness of the estuary is great, especially when you get that glass off, magic. Cool for learning new tricks without the risk of ripping your kite in half in the surf. I don't like that eggy taste it leave in the back of your throat though.

Went in to the hospital today to see Rodrigo and he is still waiting on surgery (thats the public health system for you) he is in good spirits considering he can't even go the the bathroom and has to good in one of those bed pan things.

Got the low down on how he broke the leg. After i crashed he flew the kite backwards through the windwindow and tried to skid the buggy the result was him been pulled out of the buggy and when he hit the sand he must have twisted and his foot didn't resulting in a spiral break of the tib at the ankle and a spiral break of the fib just below the knee. After surgery recovery time should be 6 weeks. Will let you know more when i do.

Wicked little sesh today. Getting kiteloops down now. In love with the 8m synergy, such a beautiful kite.

Was nice and strong... could have been 2-3knots windier though. Got a little bit boring for a while there

Roll on 30knot winds.

When i saw you, you looked like you had your hands full with that synergy i those conditions.

One of the landlubbers had my work do last night so by the time the tides were right i was going out but you can't win them all the time.

Got up this morning still blowing 18knots but again the tide is coming in and by the time i get ready the tide will be to far in and in these conditions you need as much beach as possible, so hoping this wind will stay all day and i will hit the beach at 3.00

Yeah yesterday was pretty decent. Was out before blizzad got to the beach and had a decent ride. Was quite pleased to get out back further than i have before rode toeside for a decent distance before stuffing it up and got a succesfull water relaunch after a horrilbe landing on a jump.

I dont think ill be able to make it out today which is shame cause it looks pretty good.

Could it have been any better for night kiting...?

A very high tide had pushed all the beach debris way up past the high water mark, and by 10:30pm it was a very low tide, with a very full moon rising, and very nice 10 knot ENE'ly.

Great sight to see 4 kites out at midnight... Don't know what those beach campers must have thought...??
