Time to start an auckland kite thread, we have been kiting hard out for the last 16 weeks , at least once per week, 3 times in three days for some.

Some of us have race buggies, some big foots, some land boards, all welcome. every time the wind suits a beach we email and most of us turn up to share a few hours of fun. In the recent past we have dropped flags in the beach and had some races.

Oldest person is 60 odd, youngest buggy dude is 10 , kites from Pansh , arc1120, Blade4, blade 3, Reactors, best trainer, yakuza, pepper so there is a good mix of styles and rides out there, always some one close enough to your skill level to make it fun and lots of people who know enough to help. if you want to add yourself to the mail list drop me a PM or list it here. we will sometimes publish the next loaction here too

H jimmy 22
I bent some more of that 2205 s/s this arvo, I think it's getting easer or my arms are looking like popeyes!!!!!!!!!!
any way I'm on kiddy shift sunday,Michaela is working.but may come up with kid & kites only  as the carbon 3 wheel is still unfinished
but the day will come went all is done
like the poll
Please PM me if you would like a xx racer apex in 2205 s/s with leading link front , carbon rear axle this week only $ 4500 nz
the price is a little high so I can buy a new ring piece as that 2205 is so hard to bend.

Hey Jimmy

we use to race club rules in the uk its a good place to start. But hey if everyone agrees to the rules before you start and its not going to hurt anyone you can have as many or as little rules as you want to start off i.e. you, me go from here to there and the first is the winner. I find if you make to many rules to start with you need more marshalls to see what is going on. As long as it is safe fair and fun just stick to the basics.

where can we get a copy of club rules mate, they would be pretty handy.
the hardest thing at the moment is actualy starting a race, at the moment we are just trying to lap eachother with no clear winner (other than perrin!!)
any ideas lads?

wed arvo at 2 looks good for the north end of Orewa (6th feb )

Peter F (gannet) has once again pushed the boundaries and made something special, the 2205 buggy front end looks perfect, using the leading link concept that has been so successful for me so far, it has taken the idea to a new place. Even perrin might have trouble breaking this one. The constant refinements and enthusiasm that we have going on at the moment are great and many good things will come out of some more early mornings and late nights spent in a work shop or sketching the crazy ideas where ever we are. No its not for sale, its not about money, if it were who could afford it ? But you are all welcome to try it for yourself as long as you know how to buggy , see you at the blueballs or moose meet 2008 , or at and Auckland beach sometime.

it looks perfect for you 12-15 kts 1pm low, should be 15-20 by 3-4pm so start at 12pm maybe , north of the 4wd end , nort of the north most car park. I think im in for sunday cruzing , other wise if we do different days . if you have 250 tyres instead of 200 tyres then use the 250's on west coast, the diameter helps with the softer sand.

Sunday cruzing :!: :?
is that a sunday race to the mooseland and back
Leading link LFoot just needs foot pegs( tomorrows job) & also thinking of making a sway bar for the rear of the BFoot buggy.
I have a spare BFoot front fork + 4 spare BFoot tyres all 20 mm bolts if someone is in need for the weekend.

not too bad at murs last week , a bit of water sports in the buggy, ripping along in the shalows what a great time, never had so much fun at murs as this one....

this week : We are so spoilt for wind

Hi folks,

Orewa is looking good for the weekend,

Sat low 3pm , 25-30 kts 2m kites to 3.5m kites expert , a bit of a drop of rain about
Sun low 4pm 15-20 kts 2m 5m kites expt , no rain forecast

I'm hoping to do the Sunday but either way it looks very good.

** The latest kite buggy suspension front end will be on trial Sunday all going well.

*** The tubeless barrow tyres have seen almost 60kmph now with no probs and they are ultra light. if any one wants to go tubeless i can help with advice, both my set of barrows and big foots are now tubless with fantastic results so far (5 months 20 ?! sessions )

I have made a vote even tho i live in chch. You should just start with no rules, meet at a certain place start turn at a certain point and go back. whoever gets back first wins. and bonus points to those that overtake in the air....

Gannet, what you doing using a 4.9 BIV in 15-20 you need the 4.0 for insane speed. Im waiting on my chance to get the 4 out in those winds....for some kiteloop action! How are you finding the blade?

My next kite down is a 3.4 rage , only use that went the wind gets really mad.
I hit 59.7 km/hr with the b4 and it is very good for air time, I wacked out two very good jumps , about 1.5 m up
and I think I still had a edge up wind on jimmy - yak 3.4 & beed with a jojo 3.5
as for insane speed I think my yak 7.3 would have done it that day
or would that be ,it would have done me

the 4.9 had the edge for sure , the wind was at a funny angle and the bigger kite just had more forward pull, 3.4 was too small most of the time but perfect at other times.

well that was cool, 6m and 7.3m yaks up and ripping top 53kmph in 5-10kts wind. new front end handles sweetly. the weather was perfect and we had the whole beach to ourselves , not enough wind to kitesurf but we still got 53 and 51 kmph in the 2 buggies and 31 on land board with an 11m bow kite on 9" tyres

i havent had a sail for a bit and are gagging.
where this weekend, wind looks around the 10 mark, anyone know low tides?
orewa or murawai?

also, ive been out at avondale racecourse a couple of times. its huge, and i think we have free access if nothings on. it does seem it looses a couple of knots tho, so needs to be 10+ to get it up (my kite anyway)

not looking great , midday high tides and 10-15 kts but from the south, shakers is the only one, however it is a bit cramped there and not worth the hassle for landos, ranger, big trees just one of those looks like a good idea but isnt places inland spots are usually very gusty, yes there is less wind typically than the beach but then some tornado hits you and its double the wind speed, not great for learning esp a bigger kite.

mid next week is looking good for east coast, not sure about long weekend yet.

op s, should have let you all know... Orewa was great today, all this space , 5 kite surfers at either end, 2 buggies, one lando

the 3.4 yak was pulling well , power slides of 30-40 m on ultra smooth hard packed sand

4 hours of good fun , ill try to keep yall informed of future epic sessions

like tuesday at 4pm , wed at 5pm , thursday at 6pm @orewa , good for 3.5-5m kites . sometimes today the yak was under powered , some times perfect powered, odd times a bit of sliding, the rest of the week should be the same

Was that you on the bigfoot with the white/gray+blue foil?

Probably couldn't tell but I was racing ya on the sea. Was to variable to jump and swimmers everywhere that I couldn't play in the surf so I went deep and started BAF'n at speed past the cats and windsurfers which were all to slow. The only other thing going at a decent speed would have been you so I chased hard going upwind.

yep that was me, trying out the baby yakuzza and some kit ill be using this winter, a kite works custom splash guard and goggles to cope with the wet sand . I was racing the blowkart and the dudes on the windsurfer powered skate boards, even the dude on the 500cc bike pulling wheelies.

the wind was a bit gusty but i started underpowered as usual and waited for the 3-4pm wind to fill in which it did

I guess i topped out between 50 and 55kmph when the wind was cranking, no gps that time though .
