Well Waikuku is upon us with less than 5 days until the fun begins...

The following people have booked spots in the 2 available cabins @ $10 pp/p night: -
Cabin 1 (5 spaces)
1. Spiglord
2. Kiter
3. Norwester (plus pooh bear mug)
4. J2NZ (Jay plus little one!)
5. Zenon the Elder (aka Craig)

Cabin 2 (5 spaces)
6. Blizzad
7. Zenon the Younger
8. syMptom
9. Dwars
10. **Spare**

I will be paying for the cabins when I arrive at the camp site at about 3pm on Friday, so make sure you pay me for your cabin spot when you arrive. If you are on the above list DO NOT PAY at the campsite office.
Anyone camping, or not on the above list should pay for their accomodation at the campsite office upon arrival. The only person camping to my knowledge will be Dirtdaddy plus one.

Here is a list of things you should remember to bring: -
Bedding, (sleeping bag, sheets, etc) Pillow Towel Torch Clean change of pants Food & drink (a BBQ will be available for use - thx Craig) Kites/boards/buggies..!! Sense of humor/adventure Non-wind toys

Current forecast is looking reasonable with 10 knot Easterlies on Friday evening and 10 knot North Easterlies for Saturday and Sunday. Obviously the forecast is subject to change, and there is always the on-shore effect which may kick in, (as it did on the Jib Jam last year). Keep everything crossed.

It would be great to see you represent Dunedin Craig...

And remember the low tide is not until around 4pm so no need for an early start on Saturday morning...

I'll update the forecast every day until Friday...

Hey, what is the name of the campsite?

Me and Lisa have Friday off and might head down early. Unless the tide times are crap

Are there cooking/eating facilities there too? Other than BBQ? Do we need to bring plates/cutlery/mugs/kettle?

Hope there is a fridge for the beer too!

If you are luckey Jay the Buggy Squad may get there early as well. As it happens im sure there is a kitchen there but mugs plates and cutlery are all advised. there are kettles in the cabins from memorie also.

C you there. And if anyone wants any gear taken down tell me and i can arrange for it to get there as we are taking a tralier so theres plenty of room.

The Campsite is the 'Waikuku Motor Camp' at Waikuku Beach.

Just drive north out of Christchurch for about 25kms and look out for signs on the right form Waikuku beach. Turn right and go all the way along the road until you get to a tight left hand bend, then take the first right after the bend, (shop on corner). Follow that small road straight down to the Motor Camp.

The Cabins are very basic, (what do you expect for $10 a night..?), and to the best of my recollection there is rudimentary cutlery and kitchen stuff in the cabins, and a separate kitchen block on the other side of the site. Waikuku Beach itself is a one-shop-village, so the shop you would have passed on the way to the campsite is it. It does have a very good fish & chip shop inside, (closes at 8pm), which I recommend and will be visiting...

What Waikuku lacks in amenities it makes up for in it's natural beauty and a lovely long beach...

Yup, on 2 days to go.... See you at the site from around 3pm

Just checked the forecast and Friday evening is looking good, and Saturday is getting better. Sunday looks wet, but still plenty of time for the weather to change...

Depends on if I can make it or not, and if I will be flying any kites, as my rib has already been tenderised by working too hard in the garden last weekend.

Forecast I saw today looks like westerlies. Boo!

Invited another guy, Mike, who has a buggy and a c-quad. Hope you don't mind me inviting him--the more the merrier. If he comes, he'll camp.

Can't wait to try out lots of kites. See you Friday!

ps-Steve, you still alright for me to give you some $ for bbq meats?

I'm working on a contingency plan in case the wind does not play ball on Saturday. There are a number of large domains and parks in Rangiora that we will try and use if we need to on Saturday and Sunday. I'll scope it out tomorrow.

Invite anyone you like as it's definately more the merrier...

Jay - you are sweet for some BBQ...

My advice is to get there as early as possible on Friday afternoon as that looks like it will be the best of the wind...

Forecast for Saturday is definately 20 knot Norwesters,... We should be able to fly out at the point at low tide but long runs might be in short supply. The alternatative is to relocate to an inland site to make the most of the wind... We will just have to play it by ear..

Sunday... who knows...??

We won't let a little mis-directed wind spoil the party now will we... ?

Ok, it is now 1 30 am. I am now finally finished all the prep for Waikuku. It includes:

1 newly repaired G2 13mtr
1 ready to rock buggy arc 3.3mtr (Codenamed: speed)
1 MK2 "go faster" seatbelt on Syms buggy. Pretty simple, but much better than the tremendously obsolute MK 1 on Zenon's machine
1 freshly repaired 6.5.... the ultimate kite for cruising
1 Ready to go mountainboard, with new inserts. MUCH better...

Oh, plus a new bridle on the junkie 2m,, which blew out mid kiteloop!!

I kinda hate this Waikuku business, gotta go to school on like 6 hours sleep now. But it does motivate me to finally get everything ready to go.

Good with the bad I guess. But fully looking forward to seeing the performance of this 13mtr. Even if Friday is the only good day, I'll be flying in the Nor wester no worries, just gotta put it over the sea..... more motivation not to crash!!! 8)

Good solid nor wester + insanely fast buggy kite = Zenon losing horribly!!!

Just to let everyone know that I have arranged with the Southbrook Rugby & Cricket Club in Rangiora to be able to use their sports field/s on Saturday & Sunday if wind conditions are not suitable at the beach. On Saturday there will be an area the size of 2 rugby fields to fly in, and on Sunday even more. The only things we will need to bear in mind will be not riding across the wicket area and avoiding the rugby lights, but we should be okay with that. I have a few other options that I am pursuing.
