Once you can get up on the board, start practicing the three 's' words : -
    -Steering -Sliding -Stopping
Start learning about using a combination of directing the board with your feet and using the pull of the kite to give you control over where you go. You'll need to make sure that you can navigate around obstacles /dogs/beachwalkers with confidence.

Once you get to grips with being able to go in the direction you want, you can start trying to slide the tail of the board by doing turns with the board. Start an agressive turn but kick your back foot out a little, and you should feel the board move out. Take it easy to begin with, it will feel odd initially, but after a while you should be able to slide the board travelling in both directions.

Stopping is IMPORTANT. When starting out and you want to stop your forward movement, fly your kite higher in the window until to reach the zenith, after which you should roll to a stop. To stop quicker, fly the kite just a touch past past the zenith and the pull should slow you.

If you need to stop in a hurry, fly the kite to the zenith and lean on healside to take you and your board upwind. Once you get your confidence with the board you should be able to combine sliding the board to a halt, by flying the kite aggressively up the window and putting in a sharpe turn to slide the board round.

Once you have the three 's' words sorted, then you can start to think about riding toeside, powersliding and some basic ground tricks, (manuals, reverts, transitions, etc), or start getting some air, (jumps, spins, grabs, etc...)

It's all just begining....

Mate sounds like you having a wicked time. as far as i know the best way to get the ariel 180 would be to twist your body and use your head. By turning your head your body naturally tries to follow it so this combined with the initial twist will get it hopefully. Dont trust me 100% as im a buggyier not a boarder but im sure it should work.

Bro.... waikuku is all about the bonfires!!!

But seriously, if you don't come to the next one I'll eat your mountainboard  And that's no lie.

checkout www.kiteatb.co.uk/ for help with moves etc... Also the flexifoil forums are good for asking questions, as there are more people that regularly use it. community.flexifoil.com/

We use Kites for jumps no ramps needed and that doubles for buggyies as well. Its all about progression push your self but dont over do it if you do you will end up breaking something and in doing so you could end up out of kiting and boarding for some time or broken gear.

Take it slow make sure you get your board skill up then progress to small jumps and then and only then go big...

Or, if you are like me, just be extremely careless and hard on gear, constantly trying things that some may think are beyond me.

I just keep on flying until something breaks... when it breaks I just fix it up.

lol i wouldnt jump with a kite anything less than 5m O_o that way u dont get dropped randomly (as often)

dont worry the wind is crap here as well... we went buggying at the beach at HIGH tide (driftwood and all).... purely because it was the first NE wind we've had in a couple weeks !!

And we had the killer combo of the HULK/V16 and the bigfoot 8)

I actually prefer the dunes in some respects. (the fun respect for one )

haha so im not the only desperate one, the last time i went kgb the wind was so light that i could barely keep the kite up and then i jumped into my moutainboard straps and waited like a dick for about half an hour for a gust and when i finally moved about a metre it got too dark and i had to go home. Think this smiley now picture it a hundred times more frustrated and you get my face

Re: Ok......... now what??? 5 years, 5 months ago #12336

the hulk is a prototype arc kite(it is a solid green colour so blizzad named it)

the v16 is my venom 16m2 which is also an arc kite

but yes the big foot is a buggy

yes they make 16m2 kites, I have a 20m and had a 22m. There are also 25, 30, 50m and even 100m! Used for towing big canoes.

The arc kites are used for kitesurfing, thats what I use them for. But the flat area is not the same as the flat area of a flat bridled kite because the arcs are very curved.

harbour boosting, sideways buggying, harwood speed gps'ing, sometime kiteskiing, wave/washing machine kiting, gear breaking, driving about chasing the wind....

The general rule of thumb is that the flat area of a C-shape or Arc kite is 7 / 12th the stated surface size... So if you want to compare an arc with a foil, divide by 12 and multiply by 7...

This makes a 16m Arc comparable with a 9m foil. Doofus's 22m is the equivilent of a whopping 12m foil...

better keep practising so i can build up for that 100m2 hahaha with one of those id land in a differnt country 8) yeah im kind of building up to kite surfing but id never leave KGB, man LEI's and arc kites are expensive on my big mac an hour salary it'll take forever. I myt get a petelyn buggy (new) because rob sed he'd sell it to me 350 which is like super cheap i think???? newae buggys seem all gud even if it is gusty.

which reminds me, i put my v-brake back on so i could go down MTBike trails and let my m8z have a go but every time i lean back or bend my knees to much the cable goes under the wheel and wraps round the trucks so when i try straighten up agen the brake handle in my pocket nearly pulls my pants down laugh all ya want but cruzing along the beach with ya pants round ya ankles dont sound so gud to me. I cant be stuffed taking the brake off and putting it back on again so what should i do??? anyone have this same prob?

Something around a 5.0m would be a good step up as it is about 3 times as powerful as a 3.0m and provides excellent traction in around 9-15 knots.

Yes a 5m would be the best size. it is also a really good all round size. work well in a moderate wind and when your confidence and skill build they can work right up into the 25+ knts the most ive had my blade 4.9 out in at the moment is 25 and that is scary!! take it easy and build up to what you want to fly in what conditions.

Get one of those $350 buggys it would be so much cooler than an ATB board.
 DONT LET SPIG KNOW I SAID THAT. :Runs to hide behimd the couch:

hahaha k shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I myt get a buggy coz apparently its gud to fly when its too gusty 4 ATB, nd as for the 5m i myt hit spig up for the eolo ones coz i am a poor kid unless anyone is willing to sell me second hand 5m? man all the brand name kites are expensive as, Eolo 3m actually genertates more power then a 3m flexifoil blade but the bridles (? is that the right term? i mean bit where the control lines attatch to the kite) are weak on the eolo so ive sewed them up like for times but now it seems all good and is still dragging me around and can still surprise me on a windy day if i get a gust........... only on a real windy day. Yeesh i was teaching my mates to fly yesterday in light winds and ive probably untangled 25m of line a million times over they didnt geddit after a day and it took me less than half an hour lol 8)

Which brings me to my final point i may have mentioned this earlier but hw do you tighten MBS trucks? mine are far far too loose and i get the speed wobbles way too easy. :?

I would not be surprised about the comparison you make of your eolo to the blade as both were designed by the same guy.
But i do ask how do you maek this comparison. Have you flown a 3m Flexifoil Blade??? if not then its a pretty hard comparison to make. Nothing against you kid, you may well haev as Rob was down that way not to long ago and he was bound to have his Blade IV's. I soo want one of them....or two.

Used it for mountain boarding many a time, back in the day.

It'd be dirt cheap too.

oooooooooooooooooooooohhhh lol treading on thin ice here yeah rob is like my mentor dude part from you guys online like my obi wan, he made the comment not me....... (well i did too but he said it first) i learnt to fly on the 3m blade with a bar when he was down there with his buggy and he also got my landboarding for the first time on a flexdeck.
I was gonna fly his 5m flexifoil but i really hate flying other peoples kites coz there so expensive even though i like never crash kites anymore i just like to be safe. yeah rob is awesome he lives like a block away from my house hez a cool dude. he was gettn air on a errrrrrr cant remember maybe a 6m??? it was 2 light for a 3m anyway he must of been gettn about 4-6m air id say guestimating.

Yeah shotdown ZenoN hahahahahahahahahahahahaha (just kidding man)
though like you said it'd be real hard to maek the comparison unless i was talking outta my ass but i have flown the 3M blade, maybe they have a newer better model out? im unsure how old robs is

oh yeah Blizzad? home made you say lol im interested

Robs are the best and newest model out. I think they have inproved it from the Mark III blades in terms of power delivery. the power of the Blade IIIs is raw it has to be tammed and at times it can be alot too much or so ive found and i think id be one of the only guys on here who flies blades.
O and the 3m blades suck from what ive seen. I flew a 4.0m then went back to my 4.9 and honestly i wouldnt even look at getting a 4m they are just pathetic sorry Norwester but you know its true....

but the Blade IV's oooo Robs ones are the latest and greatest and they have bettered the delivery of the power. As it happens Rob might have killed the power ion the one you were flying as they aint toy kites and have a bridal that can be set for lift or no lift. who knows anyway good to see you getting out there and flying heaps nothing more you can do, o, except get a buggy of course..

Now to get my free hours lesson with Rob....grr cmon NE.

You are talking about different 'Robs'....

Bond is talking about Rob Trepass, the once owner of the Escape2 kite shop in QTown.

Zenon is talking about Rob Hills once and future buggy champion and all-round top kiting bloke...

Carry on...
