Steve,

You free to meet up sometime this week?

Something unbelievable might happen to the weather too and we'll get a fly?! Bloody NW/S winds I moved to Chch because of promises of on-shores...

Dont worry Jay they will come but all we have to do is be paitient. At the moment id much rather have absolute crap wind and have real nice NE wind for waikuku.

But hey maybe ill feel game enough to go for a buggy today after school (lunch time  )

But i have a feeling its far to cold and a little to gusty so maybe not.

O well if we go out we will post it on here for you so that you know and if you want to you can come and see us.

Southie

Well we got a long weekend coming up (Labour Day),with late Morning low tides all 3 days, so we should be able to get together down at North Beach for a session. It's a bit too far out to guess the wind, but as per usual, we live in hope...

Wow... It's been going off down at the beach this afternoon... Damm work..

Anyways, here are the tide times for the long weekend: -

Sat - Low Tide: 10:27 (Beach rideable 6:57 to 13:57) - Wind: NW 5-10*
Sun - Low Tide: 11:11 (Beach rideable 7:41 to 14:41) - Wind: SE 10-15*
Mon- Low Tide: 11:57 (Beach rideable 8:27 to 15:27) - Wind: SW 10-15*

* Wind direction and strength subject to change, (we hope...!)

I want to baord each day this weekend so maybe a trip to Tullet & Spot 'X' might be in order, unless the NE'ers come through...

Has anyone buggy/board at the spit (birdlings flat?) below Lake Ellesmere? Looks good in theory for S and maybe even NW SW as there should be no local upwind trees to cause even more turbulence (nice flat lake Ellesmere or the Sea).

Just a thought for the non-Easterlies.

p.s. Where is spot X?

Spot 'x' is special and should only be used if the wind gods are forbidding us to go to the beach.

Glad to see you are still alive syMptom, they were some serious gust I saw out there today... Anytime you can get lifted out of your buggy on a 1.5m kite, is a day to watch kiting DVD's.

Pretty insane session on Friday afternoon. Definitely rate that NE as a top 10 session of 2006 for sure. Some good even races between SyMptom and I. showing that the 1.5 can keep pace with it's bigger 2m brother.

On the downside, the whole bridle of my 2m junkie (small yellow ass kicking kite 8) ) exploded during a kiteloop. Pretty impressive stuff, only 3 bridle lines are attached to it, the rest all snapping at the knots, due to the huge amount of force exhibited during the loop. Will be ready to rock again by tomorrow afternoon (predicted NE swing after 12pm).

Now I know the ultimate strength test for future prototypes.

Kitelooping in 25+ knots kills bridles!!!

Can you kite loop it in 25+ knots for me so i can watch and see if they bridal is strong enough??? Please???? it will also tell me how strong the flyer is too?...If hes still conscience?

Construction an the blades = crap.

They Can't stand to be looped after 20 knots, whereas the 1.5 junkie was holding up to numerous kiteloops in the 25 knots of yesterday....

However, if I can witness someone looping it (that's downlooping - no uplooping sissy girls 'round here) then I'll retract the above statement.

Until then. Blade construction = pathetic 8)

But seriously. I reckon it would blow out between 15 - 20. Snapping at the tips first, where the secondary meets primary.

Thats what i want to find out but honestly i dont think thats correct.

Rob Hills, Mark Everitt, Richy Stones all used to fly the Blade III and they would be downlooping the kite in winds we wouldnt even consider it in.

So maybe your dislike of the blades and flexifoil in general is getting in the way here a bit. But as you said i will also resevere my judgment until i find someone that is willing to downloop my 6.6 in 25knt wind.

Just gotr back from the beach, testing out my 3.0m Samurai2...sweeeeeeeetttt...

Anyway... the wind is dropping and coming far too much out of the North for any beach action...

Tullet or 'X'...? which is best in a Northerly...?

Wind may swing easterly later, but the tide is already on it's way in...

O well today was...Not to good but not bad either.

Kite of the day was the 13m Guerilla.
Good to get a look at Spigs new addition to his kit.
And not much else happened....

But the only good bit was the fact that the wind was light enough for me to get to learn how to fly the ARC which will now be going out on further sessions. And we actually managed to get some buggy movement once Spig had left. lol typical.

After the epic 3.5 hour Labour Day session, where there were 9 land based kiters out at North Brighton, I am surprised not to see any posts about it here...??

I am even more surprised that Zenon has not posted that he now has the official 2006/2007 summer land speed record of 52.6 kph in his buggy and his 4.9 Flexifoil Blade, (GPS recorded)..!! Who's gonna beat that I wonder...?

He also got 2 other awards on Monday: 'Most Spectaular Crash of the Day', and entry into the exclusive, 'Dragged into the Dunes Club'.

The Crash of the Day was during a speed run where Zenon could not hold a straight line along the beach and got pulled sideways towards the softer sand on 2 wheels at high speed. After doing a very impressive 2 wheeled jump, (unitentional), and coming down on the front wheel of his buggy, both he and the buggy sumersaulted end-of-end until he finally came out. But the ride was not over as the Blade dipped into the powerzone and started to drag him on his back along the beach, until he tried to gain some control over his kite at which point he took a sharpe right hand turn and got dragged up the front of the dunes. Fortunately his kite came down and he was able to regain his composure... Luckily no injuries, but the 50ft drag mark was a sight to behold... Well done Zenon... Any crash like that you can walk away from is a good one... [I'm sure there is a morale to this story, but I'm buggered if I care... :) )

Monday was the best session so far this season with an average 9 knots NE all afternoon, almost no real gusts but a few big lulls... I was grinning like a fool when I finsihed, (and before exhustion set in)..

Okay so on to next weekend....The tides are good for afternoon sessions on Saturday & Sunday: -

Saturday Low tide: 15:56 (ride time 12:26 to 19:26) Wind: 15-20 knot NE
Sunday Low tide : 16:46 (ride time 13:16 to 20:16) Wind: NNE 30-40knots..!!

Looks like Saturday could be the one, although the forecast is likely to change...

WOW!! Now that is a hardcore crash. Quite funny that Zenon neglected to tell me about this ONE! But don't worry, he will now be constantly reminded of how the 4.9 kicked his ass.

Thanks for keeping me in the loop spig

Looking forward to Sunday and those 30- 40 knot winds. Junkie will be sitting on the floor, fully rebridled and ready!!

Shame I missed Monday.... God damn study.

I was going to get around to posting all of the above. But hey the crash was cool and felt pretty cool to specially the double kite loop that Blade did.

And yes the Speed record is good but will not stay that way as im sure both mason and i were going way faster before you arrived with the gps Spig.

But hey i dont care if the blade spanked me cause it was fun and i have the CURRENT LANDBOARDING NEW ZEALAND SPEED RECORD!!!! Yeeha bring on those 30knt winds hopefully ill get my new Reactor by that time cause man if i do that speed record will be mearly a blip on the speedo as it climbs to the mid 60's or higher...

hmm wll we deffinatly were going faster b4 the gps arrived.... so much so we actually took down the 5m kites

my 50.9kmph was bloody close but it seems horrizontal drag got the better of me b4 i could get an extra 2kmph out of the buggy >.<

bring out the gps on sunday in that 40knot wind and ill easily beat zenons 52kmph with my 1.5m junkie if that is his 1.7 gual doesnt beat me(which i somehow doubt)

bring on the weekend

ps,

may go kiting 2moro if that NE is blowing like the paper is saying

Excellent, excellent session today...

Finally got the G2 15mtr up and going and boy is it one cool kite. It's a new kiting innovation, the only G2 with a black right wingtip 8)

When I got the kite, it was completely destroyed, one tip being melted from an incident with power lines. So i spent a couple of hours repairing it, now she looks like a sack of rubbish, from my dodgey repair job, but flies awesome.

Kitelooping the beast in winds when the 4.9 blade and Junkie were stalling out, was awesome. After Sym and Joe left started to really crank it up. Getting speeds higher than the windspeed due to the excessive kiteloops.

First time in a buggy with a proper arc 8) It's bloody awesome. Grinning from ear to ear now

BRING ON THE WEEKEND!!!

Bring it round to the factory (Blizz's garage) before we go out next weekend, otherwise it will never get fixed.

Oh, while I think about it, if any of the other NZ landboarding crew (Kiter, Norwester, Southie, Spig, Zenon, Jay, Sym or Dwars) ever need repairs done to your kites I'll fix 'em up for free. So make the most of this open invitation
