the nor west has come up a bit this morning down here in the badlands
but my old bones may need a rest day today ...probably get the blade out and give it a bit of a go just to dry it out a bit(as per instructions "do not put kite away when wet" and get some of the beach of it .....
i even got up a bit earlier this morning and gave more board a good wash down ..couldnt be bothered last night when i got home

and whats this about me flying the kite up in the top of the window all day????????

I'll say, Norwester was jumping that 4.9!! Sitting it at the top my ass. Symptom was the only one sitting it

But why we gotta move all the time spig?

From old thread:
"@ Blizzard: Symptom was not faster he always jused a biger angle to the wind and iet was a biger kite with less weight(???)in the buggy.
The orther site is i have to get used to this tiny little buggy."

Symptom is fully gay. He cheats, end of story.

Yea, I think seeing as you have a 3.8 and you were able to pass him, says a fair bit.

Hopefully I can make you a bigger axle at Peter Lynns, with HUGE bigfoot wheels. Then you should go much faster.

I think the 10m access in the buggy could've been quite lethal. I've heard alot of good things about these kites, so they have alot to live up to. Hopefully this Sunday we get to put it through its paces?

I made it. So you weren't there for a weekend?

So you didn't cut the entire thing, didn't hand me the panels to be sewn and then we didn't listen to crappy music at insane times during the night?

ANNNYWAY

Time for the real news. PL has just released a fairly serious competitor for the Ozone access. It's the next generation of Rebble and sounds very, very good. I've known about this one for over 4 months now, but it's finally here and will be hitting a beach near you soon.

I think you will be impressed by this kite Zenon. About time you came over to the light:

:: / The Reactor
It really is an incredible feeling, riding at high speeds in a buggy. You are so close to the ground, and with such a manoeuvrable buggy you are really pushing your limits. You only want to go faster and faster!

However, many kites do not have such a high flying speed. High performance race kites do, but are not as stable and easy to fly. This is where the Reactor comes in! With the Reactor, Peter Lynn introduces a very stable medium/high aspect kite aimed at intermediate and advanced flyers. Flyers who may even have racing ambitions.

This kite is primarily suitable for buggying as well as speed sessions on a land board, yet its stable and predictable flying behaviour make it accessible for a much wider group of flyers. As far as both look and feel of the Reactor are concerned, this kite seems to belong to the category of high performance kites. The Reactorhard to resist.

:: / Flying characteristics /

| Speed
The Reactor has an amazing flying speed, especially when comparing it to other kites with a similar aspect ratio. You can ride competitively with other buggy riders, the Reactor will not be the one stopping you from riding at high speeds.

| Quick steering behaviour
The Reactor responds direct/fast to you input. With very minor movement with your handles, the Reactor moves quick and easy. Great for fast gibes and quick kite loops.

| Stability
The Reactor not prone to luffing so it will not surprise you in a nasty way. Its upwind and downwind performance are amazing without giving you that feel that you are on the edge and may lose it any second. The Reactor is one of a few kites out there that combine performance and stability in an unbelievable way.

| Power buildup
The way it builds its power is very comfortable. The Reactor needs speed to perform but still has got enough grunt to keep you moving when you hit soft sand. Once the kite is stopped above your head you will notice the low lift this kite produces.

| Windrange
Due to a broad range of sizes and its large wind range per size you can easily ride in any wind speed with these six sizes. You will notice that there is a comfortable overlap of any Reactor with its next size in terms of wind range. The larger sized kites have a slightly higher aspect ratio than the smaller kites giving them a similar feel across the range.

:: Features /
Medium-high aspect ratio with semi-stabilizing profile combining high performance with extreme user friendliness
Crossvented profiles for fast and easy (re)launching
Manufactured using high quality construction methods
Top quality Ripstop Nylon top and bottom skin with extra durable and tear-resistant fabric for the profiles.
Dyneema bridles, spliced then stitched for less drag, minimizing the chance that bridles get hooked around each other of the flying lines
Velcro loop to minimize the chance of bridles getting tangled when packing up your kite.

Watchout guys, with this new kit there will be no keeping pace with the buggy brigade!!

Pics as soon as I can upload em.

Yes you are right i am VERY interested. Xmas pressie?

The thing that is highlighted above is the low lift well thats fine for you IM FREESTYLE ie JUMPING how does that help when the kite has no lift.

Although you did say the Junkie wasnt going to lift and its Masons jumping kite soo who knows.

Looks cool though cant waint to try one. A big one!

Yes, because we all saw how you took great advantage of the LIFTING abilities of the 6.6 in the weekend

"Jump Joe, jump.." Me
"Maybe, holdon..." Joe

...In the car, on the way back

"So did you JUMP at all, in the end?" Me
"Nope." Joe

Freestyle my ass... 8)

Edit: I said it was a competitor to the Access, which also has no lift at the top. When I said this kite would suit you, I was referring to a replacement to the 5m rebble.

Better upwind... faster peformance. And you have to admit that even though the rebble has very little lift, it is still an awesome kite. Fast and fun sessions have been had with that kite, like the Southerly at the end of the holidays when you were totally overpowered on it. Remember the huge screams and grins of that day?

The Reactor would do the same kinda stuff, only much faster...Which of course equals a bigger grin factor.

Can you follow my logic at all dude? I mean you've already got the lifty kite sussed. The 6.6 does the job fine. Why not have an awesome kite in the kit for when you just wanna cruise?

Personally, I'll be buying the 3.8, as soon as they hit NZ. Then I'll challenge spig to a race. Reactor vs. Access. Who will win??

Yes i see where your coming from. And i think that ill get either a 3.8 or a 4.9 . THe 3.8 would eb better as the blade has already taken place of the rebble but i think that if it is genuinly low lift it would be better to go slightly larger but going larger will mean a difference in the turn rate so maybe the smaller is better after all.

get me a price and by xmas i will try to have the money.

cool lookin kite ,
"if the kite looks good it must be good"
As i dont really understand all the technical guff i will leave that to the Buggy Squad
So is this one is more suited for buggys not boards???
as long as it has the grin factor ...who cares who made it ...aye fellas.

This is probably more suited to the buggy BUT the blade was never intended for the buggys but that is where its taken off. So its entirely possible for it to be used on the plank on wood.lol

I think ill get one come xmas but im getting the new Ozone buggy first before any new kites.

we should be able to demo this sort of stuff
for gods sake the man who's name is on the kites lives in the district
....come on Pete throw a few kites at the locals for a bit of testing.....
maybe i will drop round to his place after work for a beer and ask him...LOL

here is how the conversation would probably go..............................
"hey Pete how are ya"said norwester
"Arnt you the guy who keeps flyin flexifoils at my park"said pete
"well mate if i could try a few of your ones out maybe i would be flyin yours at the park instead of imported kites, after all Pete we are both local"said norwester
"Sure Norwester what a great idea get some locals to test and promote the brand ...Why didnt ithink of that"said Pete
"Good on ya Pete"said Norwester

Now i am probably being a wee bit sarcastic but who knows it could happen

I reakon and if that fails we can just go into the factory with Blizzad as a hostage and demand to fly the kites.

Who knows if that would work or not but it would be amusing. Let me find my camera

Not that I really care... but why try and fragment an already small community even further? Is there any need for yet another board?
It's happened before with nzkiteboarding.com and its dumb (not that anyone posts there...). Why not encourage everyone to the one place?
Spiglord aren't you meant to be a mod? Pretty bad form to be trying to pull people to your own site isn't it?

Hey southern_man

This is a forum, not a chat room.... subtle difference I know, but they serve 2 different purposes...

If you posted here more often you would have noticed that a lot of off-topic 'chat' type stuff gets added to various threads throughout the Forum.

In fact as a Forum Mod, I created a dedicated thread for 'Chatting', but have noticed that the off-topic 'chatter' is still apearing in other threads. Therefore I created an environment for the hardcore 'chatters' to use for exactly that purpose.

I have no intention of encouraging people away from the Forum when they have something to ask, post a review, arrange a meet, etc.. Especially when I am the only person encouraging people here in the first place...!

hey there southern man ;
i think your point is valid but i dont think its what the idea is about
I think Spig has pretty well summed it up with his reply .......

I created a dedicated thread for 'Chatting', but have noticed that the off-topic 'chatter' is still apearing in other threads.

I am all for getting more people into the sport and the forum is a place for new people to come and ask questions and find out where other like minded people go to kite
its a great meeting place as i should know thats how i got into the sport
posting threads on here to find out where and when

it does get a bit cluttered in the forum when ya just want to catch up with everone ,the forum is just that "A Forum" and the chat is for chat
anyway im off to the chat room .........

Great to get out today even if the wind only got up to 6 knots at best, at least it was coming out of the right direction and I got to fly.

Thanks for the bridle fix Blizz...

12mtr was pretty cruisy today. I think we'll need a whole quiver of 3 for the AEOBB boys.

Man today was nuts.

Buggy squad put on a display at the local primary school, cruising in between 300 or so screaming kids, was probably the biggest audience we've ever had!!

Joe was carving it up on the (poor performing) blade 3. Pulling off some real nice jumps.

Symptom was using the 5m junkie and jumping around.

I just used the little 3.5mtr and flew it as recklessly as possible. Sweeping it past the groups of kids and just pulling out of power dives at the last second. Good fun.

The buggy was ripping it up with the 6.6 and 5. Really cool fun, probably the best session ever!!

Poor performing my arse.

Remember sunday and your little large long walk of shame back up the beach because your 6.5 couldnt get you back.

Mason and i both made it back. Me on my 6.6 mason on the 5.

Dude, I thought I made it clear.

The only reason that we got such awesome performance from the 12 - on Sunday - is because of it's sheer lack of upwind ability.

Of all kites out on that day, the one with the least amount of upwind ability, happens to be doing the best. Now that my friend, just goes to show you what a random angled NNE wind does to kites.

The fact is, Ole couldn't fly his kites either, as they sat to far forward in the window and luffed. Seeing as I had the same problem (couldn't keep the kite back in the window far enough - without strangling it with copious amounts of brake)

So, the only logical conclusion is to compare the 6.5 to a series of German race kites, which are fast and efficient.

The blade on the other hand IS ONE HELL OF A PIG in light winds. Seriously, the junkie pisses all over it in sub 10 knots. The reason it is such a pig, is due to the massive AoA therefore resulting in C lines that are far too tight, which makes it VERRRY SLOW. So why do flexifoil kill performance on perhaps their most well known kite?

Simple, so it doesn't luff when you jump it. Luffing is caused by the kite collapsing from the leading edge, indicating that the angle of attack is set to low. So flexifoil take the easy road out and just utilise an excessive angle of attack, instead of looking for alternate solutions to the problem. What is the price you pay for this anti luffing? A pig of a kite in lower winds and a kite that sits back in the window.

See the link? The teega has a small window and so does a blade as a result of the excessive angles of attack. Therefore, the blade performed better on the day, because it was INCAPABLE of edging upwind, caused by its small window and excessive AoA.

The poorer performing kites had the edge on Sunday.

Need I say more?

BTW: there is a pun in the above post. Anyone spot it?
